Lyre Notes Alpha Nu Chapter of ΑΧΩ at the University of Missouri Fall 2022 HOUSE UPDATES OUTSIDE… Many thanks to the House Corporation Board members for all their hard work to keep our members safe and the house attractive and comfortable. The board completed several projects at 900 Richmond this summer. The parking lot and driveway were patched and resealed with a little extra love: the painters stenciled large lyres down the driving paths, which is a nice "Welcome Home!" for members and a great PACE (Promote Alpha Chi Everyday) tactic for all who pass by. A new reflective sign in the parking lot is easily seen in the dark, helping our sisters find their way home safely. In past years, football weekend tailgaters in the lot behind our house had become a problem, so a wrought iron fence has been installed along the back of the property line. A gate to the house provides additional security. Brush was cleared from the back of our lot and it now looks clean and beautiful! In addition, members are happy to have a secure place to park their bikes. Our big, beautiful oak tree next to the deck on the south side of the house was removed. Falling branches were a hazard to members enjoying the deck and to the cars in the adjacent lot. An arborist diagnosed the tree as ill and recommended we take it down. We were sad to lose the tree but had no other option. The beautiful magnolia in the front of the house was also diagnosed as ill but is receiving treatment and should last for many more years. …AND INSIDE! The carpet in the nook and two rugs in the adjoining room were replaced and look stunning! Hazard stripping was added to each stair in the back stairwells to better accommodate a member who is visually impaired (and has also been helpful to many more!). Rooms were repainted as needed, bathroom light fixtures replaced and the house had a deep cleaning prior to the members returning. MEET GWEN, OUR HOUSING DIRECTOR In August 2021, Gwen Larson became housing director at Alpha Nu. Gwen lives in the house year-round, which is a great benefit to the HCB, and assists by meeting with inspectors and overseeing summer projects. She serves as our eyes and ears, acting as hostess to workers in addition to documenting each stage of projects (she is a great photographer) and communicating with the HCB. We feel blessed to work with her and appreciate her contributions to Alpha Nu! Gwen's generous heart goes a long way toward making Alpha Nu a home for its 200-plus members. Her door is open to anyone who needs to talk and she provides unconditional love to everyone. Plus, she's super creative and savvy with technology. Over the summer she created a personalized basket with many useful items and goodies to welcome each in-house member. She's a pro at Photoshop and designed T-shirts for the big/little reveal. She's edited papers, written recommendation letters, and sewn and steamed clothing and costumes. Let's just say she goes above and beyond for our members. Gwen has also organized a group for all house directors on campus and holds biweekly meetings to discuss topics such as vendors, Columbia city services, construction projects in Greek Town and campus information. Recently, she hosted a get-acquainted dinner party on the Alpha Nu deck for all house directors and Mizzou's Fraternity and Sorority Life executive team. HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON! If you're in Columbia, feel free to stop by the house. In addition to seeing all the recent upgrades to the house, you'll love meeting Gwen and your amazing collegiate sisters! They are Real. Strong. Women. and will make you proud to be an Alpha Nu, Alpha Chi Omega!
