8A Daily News – Saturday, August 3, 2013 Religion Faith &Worship God's design Church news Honduran priest to visit St. Peter's Episcopal Church The Rev. Olga Barrera, from the Episcopal Diocese of Honduras, will be preaching at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Sunday, Aug. 4 at the 9:30 a.m. worship service with Holy Communion. She will be assisted by Kathy Wallace, Deacon Intern to St. Peter's. All are welcome to join in worship. The Rev. Barrera has served as school principal for ten years at Holy Spirit Episcopal School in Tela, Honduras. Offering education to pupils ages preschool through 11th grade, Holy Spirit School and is one of seven Episcopal Bilingual Schools in the Diocese of Honduras in which 80% of the curriculum is taught in English. The school's goal is to provide quality bilingual education, training young people to be prepared academically and intellectually to speak English and Spanish fluently as a means to future success as leaders. The institution also seeks to form school partnerships in promoting cross-cultural education programs and exchanges. Holy Spirit School belongs to the Association of bilingual schools of Honduras and the Association of Honduras Episcopal educational institutions. St. Peter's belongs to the Diocese of Northern California, a companion to the Diocese of Honduras. St. Peter's is located at 510 Jefferson Street, on the corner of Jefferson and Elm streets. For more information please contact 527-5205 or stpeters@sbcglobal.net. Visit the website at www.saintpetersepiscopal.org. St. Peter's welcomes all who seek a spiritual home and worship Jesus Christ in its mission to love and serve God; nurture one another in Christian love; worship, work, learn and pray together; and to minister the Lord's love to all people. God says in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." We need to remind ourselves that God's thoughts are upon mankind for good. He grieves over the lost, the hungry, the tormented, the naked, and all of the many needs of His creation. His original design and ongoing purpose is shown to us in the Garden of Eden, before the fall. When God sent Jesus to this earth He extended His love to all of us, offering us everything that we would ever need, through His only begotten Son! God's design for all born again Christians is truly to be His hands extended. The Word of God, His love letter to us, explains so clearly God's design, for He has chosen to trust us with the ability to meet the needs of others in this world. That doesn't mean God trusts us to design our own love. He has given His design for us to follow. That design includes The Great Commission, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, providing shelter, and living a life of love. Yet, we have grown so self-centered in our culture. We have buried ourselves with personal desires, and the pursuit of our own pleasures, and the majority of us are not following God's design even when we claim to be serving others. Many religious people hide behind their cloak of good deeds, thinking others will notice their efforts. Christians who love the Lord with all their hearts do not seek the approval of man while performing loving acts of kindness. Only God truly knows the heart of man. In the end, He will judge our actions by His Commission and reach out with hands of mercy, in this hurting "divine ruler." I'm certain all Christians want to world. It is so simple, and so comprehensive. When we fail we can pray: how easy it is for us to say, even to ourselves, "Why I'd never ignore "Father, forgive me where I have the needs of others, and just pass failed to follow Your Design for by them." Martin GodTalk Vacation Bible School Presbyterian Church to offer Bible reading campaign The Presbyterian Church of Red Bluff, 838 Jefferson St., is getting ready to launch a Bible reading campaign this fall. "A Gallup survey has reported that the average American household has four Bibles," said the Rev. Beth Hoyt. "However research has also found that very few of us have read the entire Bible, and only 16 percent of Americans read even a little bit of the Bible every day. As Christians, this is the book upon which AUG. 5 - 9 9am - Noon Ages 4-11 Calvary Chapel Red Bluff 12375 Paskenta Rd. www.ccredbluff.org or (530) 527-8219 Bring your friends! we base our faith. It is time to find out what it really has to say. So we are going to do just that, beginning Sept. 8 and finishing in May." The Presbyterian Church is going to use The Story as a guide through scripture. The Story is a unique program providing 31 weeks of curriculum for children, teens and adults, and 31 weeks of corresponding sermons. The Story is 31 chapters of carefully-selected scriptures sequenced in chrono- logical order, and presents the word of God in an engaging format, reading like a novel. The church is going to give the appropriate edition of The Story to children and youth who decide to share in this 31 week adventure, and is making inexpensive copies of the adult edition available for purchase as well. A discussion group for adults at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays will provide a place to share what is being learned. The Presbyterian Church welcomes any from the community who might like to join for this journey. There is no pressure to become a long-term member of the church. "Just come for nine months to read the Bible and find out what the Christian faith is all about," Hoyt said. "In the fall Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m. and worship follows at 11 a.m. For more information give us a call at 5270372."
