SECRET WITNESS 529-1268 A program of Tehama County Neighborhood Watch Program, Inc. Quite a long time ago, we planned to escape the heat of the valley led in a variety of directions, some of which did not escape the heat waves. My husband and I visited several store; some of which were of the modem variety and some which were almost old fashioned in environment. Which offered the quickest and most efficient service? Which offered the most pleasant and efficient sales personnel? Which of them left us happy to have visited? All fair questions I believe. The answers may be somewhat of a surprise to modem day mall shoppers used to the glitter and glitzy displays and "one-day sale signs." The first establishment we visited was a home improvement building supply business. There were multiple lines with some being manned by real live people and others that were totally automated. Not having used the "automated," self pay system, we opted for the real live person line. We spent twenty minutes waiting our turn. When we finally got almost to the register, the person in front of us paid with a check for the large number of items purchased. We were moving forward when someone's check was rejected, we then waited for the merchandise to be removed before we could pay for our own item. Fortunately, the clerk remained pleasant even though the bad check customer was disgruntled. When we moved up to pay for our merchandise, we discovered that we had to go automated anyway. We had to swipe our credit card through the machine and sign invited us to come back again. The experience was exhilaratour name on a small screen while ing; we left with smiles trying to get our trifocals on our faces saying that in the position to see we would come back where to put the signaagain when we were in ture.
