T22 WHATS UP! October 9 - 15, 2022 The Late Show With Stephen Colbert A new study says that if we exer- cise for 30 minutes a day but spend the rest of the time sitting, "it's almost as if we had not worked out at all." Well, that's great news, because it means that if all I do is sit all day, it's al- most as if I had worked out. The Queen isn't the only leader the world is mourning this week. We also lost Fred Franzia, the mastermind behind Two Buck Chuck wine. So pour one out for Fred tonight. Or, pour out like three — they're really cheap. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Former president Trump has of- ficially ruled out Mike Pence as a running mate in 2024, saying that Pence would be "totally in- appropriate" after he committed "political suicide." By the way, I don't think Pence wants to run with Trump, either, you know? That's like Simon & Garfunkel reuniting after Simon tried to kill Garfunkel. Yesterday [Sept. 13] the stock market fell nearly 1,300 points ... its worst day since 2020. Yeah, yesterday at the Stock Exchange, instead of the closing bell they just played [the "Price is Right" loser horn]. Ferrari just unveiled its first-ev- er four-door car. Yeah, right now people who own Ferraris are like, "Oh, if only I had three friends." Jimmy Kimmel Live! There are five different probes penetrating Trump's underbelly right now — and those are just the ones we know about. ... The Department of Justice, the FBI, the Fulton County district attor- ney, the Manhattan district at- torney and the New York State attorney general are all closing in on Trump. Even his lawyers have had to hire lawyers at this point. [Ron] DeSantis is that guy you went to high school with who desperately wanted to be prom king but didn't have the charis- ma, so instead, he just pulled the fire alarm and ruined the dance for everybody. Late Night With Seth Meyers Republican Senator Lindsey Graham introduced a bill yes- terday [Sept. 13] that would ban abortions after 15 weeks of preg- nancy nationwide, but just 'cause his first pitch of banning sex in general proved unpopu- lar. Ferrari yesterday [Sept. 13] un- veiled its first-ever four-door ve- hicle, which will be an SUV-like sports car with a 715-horsepow- er engine. Perfect for taking your third wife's kids to soccer prac- tice! President Biden spoke to Brit- ain's King Charles yesterday [Sept. 14] for the first time since Queen Elizabeth's passing. "I can't believe you waited your entire life for this lousy job!" said both of them at the same time. The Late Late Show with James Cordon Almost 40 associates of Donald Trump have now been subpoe- naed by a grand jury over al- leged efforts to influence the 2020 elections. These subpoe- nas mark a significant escalation in the Justice Department's in- vestigation into the Jan. 6 riots. Forty Trump associates: it's like Coachella for people who would disown you for going to Coach- ella. President Biden is currently hard at work trying to prevent a railroad strike that could take place as soon as this weekend [Sept. 17]. Biden has been work- ing directly with the unions and the railroads to try to work something out. Unions and rail- roads: If they somehow incor- porate ice cream and a 12-min- ute story about a guy named Swizzlestick, this is a full Biden bingo. It appears the Department of Justice is preparing to call Don- ald Trump's bluff on his claim that he previously declassified the top secret documents that were found at Mar-a-Lago. ... Wow, it's like a game of poker, isn't it? In that it's incredibly bor- ing and we're all going to lose. LATE LAUGHS BY MICHELLE ROSE TV Media Gone 'Full Circle': "Justi- fied" fans are justifiably excited to see series lead/executive pro- ducer Timothy Olyphant repris- ing his role as U.S. Marshal Ray- lan Givens in FX's "Justified: City Primeval." Filming wrapped this summer in Chica- go, where a real-life gunfight briefly halted production, and though the series will likely air sometime in 2023, Olyphant is already working on another TV project. The "Deadwood" actor is one of several names attached to "Full Circle," an upcoming HBO Max limited series from director Steven Soderbergh ("Ocean's Eleven," 2001) and writer Ed Sol- omon ("Men in Black," 1997). According to the official logline, "an investigation into a botched kidnapping uncovers long-held secrets connecting multiple characters and cultures in pres- ent-day New York City" — HBO Max hasn't provided a lot of ad- ditional details about those "characters and cultures." When the series was picked up in 2021, Soderbergh stated that "even by Ed's [Solomon's] standards, this is a complex nar- rative that manages to be both kaleidoscopic and intimate. Our task now is to assemble a great cast and make sure we execute at the level the scripts deserve." That "great cast" came togeth- er quickly. Olyphant, who also has roles in the upcoming mini- series "Daisy Jones and the Six" and the thriller "Havoc," will star opposite "Homeland" Emmy winner Claire Danes, who is believed to be playing a Manhattan attorney in "Full Cir- cle." Dennis Quaid ("Reagan," 2022) has also been cast in a lead role, reportedly playing a fa- mous TV chef whose grandson was the kidnapping target (ac- cording to Deadline). "Full Cir- cle" also stars Zazie Beetz ("At- lanta") as a U.S. Postal Inspec- tion Service agent and Emmy winner Jharrel Jerome ("When They See Us") as a member of a New York criminal organization. McGregor in Moscow: Scottish actor Ewan McGregor ("Obi-Wan Kenobi") is set to play a Russian count in a new British drama series that will air on Showtime in the U.S. and Par- amount+ internationally. An adaptation of the bestsell- ing novel by Amor Towles, "A Gentleman in Moscow" is the story of Count Alexander Ros- tov, who (according to the offi- cial description), "in the after- math of the Russian Revolution, finds that his gilded past places him on the wrong side of history. Spared immediate execution, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol, threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again. As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history un- fold outside the hotel's doors, Rostov's reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional dis- covery. As he builds a new life within the walls of the hotel, he discovers the true value of friendship, family and love." In addition to being the series lead, McGregor is credited as an executive producer. "It's an amazing, wonderful story," McGregor said in a state- ment. "And I am very excited to get to play such a fabulous role." Mind you, that "fabulous role" was originally given to Kenneth Branagh ("Belfast," 2021), who was tapped to star in and pro- duce the series when it was an- nounced in 2018. McGregor is now taking over the role of the Count from Branagh, who is un- doubtedly busy with other proj- ects, including a role in the Christopher Nolan-directed "Oppenheimer" (2023) and a possible third Hercule Poirot movie. Samberg's 'Digman!': "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star Andy Samberg is either a big fan of his- tory or Indiana Jones — or both. Samberg and "Brooklyn Nine- Nine" writer/co-executive pro- ducer Neil Campbell are launch- ing a new adult animated series for Comedy Central (likely pre- miering in 2023). A half-hour series, "Digman!" is set in a world where archeolo- gists are "massive celebrities and the coolest people on the planet." It is the first series writ- ten and produced by Samberg, who is also known for his work on "Saturday Night Live" and as part of the comedy trio The Lonely Island. Samberg also re- cently voiced Dale in the Dis- ney+ movie "Chip 'n' Dale: Res- cue Rangers" and will step into the booth once more, this time as titular character Rip Digman. The actor has also recruited a few friends to round out the voice cast, including "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" co-star Melissa Fumero and fellow "Saturday Night Live" alumnus Tim Mead- ows, who had a recurring role on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" as Caleb the Cannibal. The voice cast of "Digman!" also includes Mitra Jouhari ("Three Busy Debras"), Tim Robinson ("I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson"), Dale Soules ("Orange Is the New Black") and Guz Khan ("Our Flag Means Death"). "As kids, we were led to be- lieve that archeologists are all badass, adventure-seeking rock stars, but after spending 20 long years pursuing careers in arche- ology, we now see that was a lie perpetuated by Big Holly- wood," Samberg and Campbell said in a joint statement. "So we created 'Digman!' to finally bring our childhood dreams to life." "Digman!" hails from CBS Studios, along with Ali Bell and The Lonely Island's production company, Party Over Here.
