T22 WHATS UP! September 25 - October 1, 2022 The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Over the weekend [Aug. 8], we found out that the FBI seized 11 sets of classified documents from Trump's home, including four sets marked 'top secret.' ... You know Trump just kept those hoping to come across KFC's se- cret blend of 11 herbs and spices. Just a thought, but if the govern- ment doesn't want people read- ing [top secret] files, maybe they shouldn't label them 'top secret.' It's like a guy labelling a porn folder on his computer 'best porn.' It's like, just call it 'banana bread recipe.' This is big: The CDC has ended most of its restrictions for quar- antining and contact tracing. Now they're replacing them with some new COVID guide- lines. First of all, all hand sanitiz- er is now illegal. Next, if you have to sneeze, make sure it's into a stranger's open mouth. Next up, you can lick anything now! Go ahead, lick the floor! Jimmy Kimmel Live! With Simu Liu Now this is a historic night for the show, because I am the first Jimmy Kimmel guest host who actually has never met Jimmy Kimmel. That's not a joke. This is actually my third time on the show and I never met the guy! ... But this is not unfamiliar territo- ry for people like me. It's just an- other story of an immigrant do- ing the job of a white guy and getting paid 900% less. Here in Southern California we're in the middle of a massive drought, and local officials have been sending letters to residents who are using too much water, including some very notable names. ... The Kardashians, Dwayne Wade, Sylvester Stal- lone and Kevin Hart are among the 2,000-plus customers warned for excessive water us- age. Now, before you grab all your pitchforks, just have a little compassion for these poor ce- lebrities, all right? Do you guys even know how much water it takes to wash a private jet? Donald Trump is getting his por- trait put up in the Smithsonian, and Trump's political action committee has paid $650,000 to commission paintings of the for- mer first couple, which is a lot of money. I mean, for $650,000 Joe Biden could forgive 32 student loans and Donald Trump could buy the silence of three porn stars. Late Night With Seth Meyers Former vice-president Mike Pence is expected to hold a fun- draiser later this month [Au- gust] in the Hamptons. So, if you think you bumped into Mike Pence in the Hamptons this month, that's just what every man in the Hamptons looks like. The CDC this week [Aug. 4] is reportedly expected to ease its coronavirus guidance recom- mendations. Though I don't know how it could be any more eased. Nobody's wearing masks. The restaurants are full. Do they want us to kiss the waiter before we order? The department store corpora- tion that operates T.J. Maxx, Marshall's and Home-Goods re- cently agreed to a $13-million fine for selling recalled infant sleeper products. OK, I knew this [electrified crib] felt unsafe. Tomorrow [Aug. 5] is National Underwear Day. Already? Man, it really creeps up on you. The Late Late Show with James Cordon It's been announced that Presi- dent Biden will host the Obamas next week to unveil their official White House portraits. This comes years after Trump snubbed them by not upholding the presidential tradition of do- ing this for your predecessor. In Trump's defense, I'm sure it was just busy hand-picking which top secret documents he could steal that day. The Obamas are coming back to the White House next week and then I don't know, maybe just let the Obamas hang out for a little while. [The Australian government is] hoping kids will be able to fill worker shortages for traditional Australian jobs like dingo wran- gler, crocodile hunter or Hems- worth brother. LATE LAUGHS BY MICHELLE ROSE TV Media Embracing 'Kaos': Fresh off her role in the Mike Myers-led limited series "The Pentaver- ate," actress Debi Mazar ("En- tourage") has signed on to star in another Netflix project. And this time she'll be playing one of the most recognizable figures in Greek mythology. Mazar has joined the cast of "Kaos," the darkly comedic, con- temporary take on Greek and Roman mythology from creator Charlie Covell ("The End of the F***ing World"). She'll be play- ing the coveted role of Medusa, the snake-haired Gorgon whose gaze can turn anyone to stone. And given that the series will ex- plore "love, life and power in the underworld," where Hades is losing control as he struggles to deal with a backlog, one can hope that Mazar's Medusa may be a more complex character than just the monster slayed by Perseus. Mazar joins an all-star cast that includes Janet McTeer ("Ozark") as Hera, David Thew- lis ("The Sandman") as Hades, Daniel Lawrence Taylor ("Time- wasters") as Theseus and the one and only Jeff Goldblum ("Ju- rassic Park," 1993) as Zeus. Goldblum, who arguably stole the show as the Grandmaster in "Thor: Ragnarok" (2017), stepped in to take over the role of Zeus after Hugh Grant ("Pad- dington 2," 2017) departed the project due to a scheduling con- flict. And the cast announce- ment teases plenty of opportuni- ties for Goldblum to display his trademark dramatic and come- dic chops, as the "seemingly all- powerful, yet desperately inse- cure and vengeful Zeus, who has long enjoyed his status as King of the Gods. That is until he wakes up one morning and dis- covers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis then sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming — and starts to see signs of it everywhere." Also starring in "Kaos" are Aurora Perrineau ("Jem and the Holograms," 2015) as mortal Riddy; Cliff Curtis ("Training Day," 2001) as Poseidon; Killian Scott ("Traders," 2015) as Or- pheus; Misia Butler ("Kiss Me First") and Leila Farzad ("I Hate Suzie") as mortals Caneus and Ari, respectively; and Nabhaan Rizwan ("Station Eleven") as Di- onysus. Reportedly, Billie Piper ("Doctor Who") is also set to make a cameo appearance. 'Glamorous' role: "Kim's Convenience" star Nicole Power has been added to the cast of the Netflix drama series "Glamor- ous." The Canadian actor is set to appear alongside Kim Cattrall ("Sex and the City") and YouTu- ber Miss Benny ("American Horror Stories"), who plays the lead role of Marco Mejia, "a gen- der-nonconforming queer young man whose life seems to be stuck in place until he lands a job working for legendary make- up mogul Madolyn Addison [played by Cattrall]" (per Vari- ety). As the CEO of Glamorous Cosmetics, Cattrall's character hires Marco to help her discover who is sabotaging her company from the inside. Power will play the role of Mykynnleigh, a "seemingly guileless corporate consultant" who helps make a business deal happen, but whose behavior may be deceiving, as Mykynnleigh "possesses a lot of backbone and business acu- men." "Glamorous," which is cur- rently filming in Toronto, is one of several upcoming projects starring Power, who also stars in CBC's "Strays." The "Kim's Con- venience" spinoff is now into its second season and films in Hamilton, Ontario. Power will next be seen in the films "Pat- tern" and discovery+'s "Design- ing Christmas," which was shot in Ottawa, Ontario, and in the nearby town of Almonte, Ontar- io, a popular film location for made-for-TV holiday movies. As for Cattrall, the actor was the voice of Future Sophie in Season 1 of "How I Met Your Fa- ther," which has been renewed for a second season by Hulu. In fact, the streamer is doubling down on the Hilary Duff-led se- quel to CBS's "How I Met Your Mother," having ordered 20 new episodes (instead of 10), and it stands to reason that Cattrall will continue in her role as nar- rator. Opposite sides: By now, the networks have largely decided which 2022 pilots will be given a series pickup, and Milo Ventimi- glia's newest project is among them. The Emmy-nominated "This Is Us" actor is behind the new hour-long spy drama "The Com- pany You Keep," which has been picked up to series by ABC. Described as an American ad- aptation of the Korean series "My Fellow Citizens," the series is centered on con man Charlie (Ventimiglia) and undercover CIA officer Emma (Catherine Haena Kim, "FBI"), who fall in love after a chance meeting in a bar and a night of passion. But the two are unknowingly on a collision course profession- ally. While Charlie is trying to extricate himself from the "fami- ly business" for good, Emma is slowly moving in on a vengeful criminal and mobster who's been blackmailing Charlie's family. Their entanglement may have dire consequences for them and for their polar-oppo- site families, especially since Emma (Kim) hails from an Asian American political dynas- ty.
