r e d f c u.o r g | 5 It's so easy to do holiday shopping online! You can find deals without leaving your couch, and the options are endless. Unfortunately, getting scammed can also be easy if you're not careful. Ensure a positive online experience by keeping these tips in mind. Here are our top tips for shopping online: 5 Review your statements. Keep an eye on your financial statements to verify charges. If you suspect fraud, call Redstone immediately. 6 Choose credit. Use a credit card to pay for online purchases. Federal law limits your liability to $50 in the event of fraud. 7 Secure your device. Make sure your phone, tablet, or laptop has updated security software installed, and regularly run a system check. 8 Say "no" to public Wi-Fi. Don't do your online shopping from public places. Open networks can provide opportunities for identity thieves. Your secured home network is safer. 9 Be ready for returns. e downside of online shopping is that you can't try something on or check the item for blemishes, so look for a simple return policy. And save your receipts to ensure a smooth return process. 1 Know your merchant. It's smart to compare prices at multiple online retailers, but choose one that's reputable. If a merchant is new to you, look for online reviews. A misspelling in the web address is a clue that you're not shopping on a safe platform. Scam emails can look like they're from your favorite stores. So instead of clicking a link in an email, go directly to the store's website. 2 Lock your site. Look for "https" at the beginning of the URL for the webpage where you're making a purchase. e "s" indicates security. 3 Be careful with your info. Online merchants don't need your SSN or birthdate, so don't divulge more information than you need to. 4 Use a solid password. Pick one that's tough to crack, and don't use the same one on multiple sites. Using a unique password is especially important for websites that save your credit card information.
