5 | SIGMA CHI S igma Chi gave Rob Johnson '77 an anchor throughout his college years, including reliable friends who have now stuck with him for 45 years. "As a member, you learn to live with and get along with others who may not hold the same views you do," Rob said. "It's a great learning experience for real life—and we had a lot of fun." When Rob moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, he connected with the local alumni group, where he found fun and friendship yet again. He eventually served a term as Grand Praetor for Eastern North Carolina, which was a challenging yet rewarding experience. "If someone catches fire, you become a fireman," he said of the job. One of the highlights of Rob's term was attending the Grand Chapter in Salt Lake City, meeting wonderful brothers from all over the Sigma Chi world. As a Mu Mu undergraduate, Rob served as magister and has fond memories of chapter events and parties with his friends at 700 N. High Street. He also worked countless hours in the chapter house kitchen, pursuing a love of food that began in high school. Rob's time as a "food guy" did not end in college! He spent his full corporate career in the hospitality and foodservice industries, mostly in sales and service director roles. When Rob and his wife, Vickie, lived in Northern Ireland for work, he relished the chance to learn firsthand about another culinary culture. Now retired, Rob is proud of all the delicious food he has served and sold. The memories Rob made in his college years with Mu Mu—and continues to make with Sigma Chi brothers—made supporting the capital campaign a no-brainer. "In recruitment, like the business, you must offer a competitive product," he explained. "The house at 700 N. High is getting old and needs to be updated." Rob and his wife, Vickie, have lived in Raleigh for 30 years—minus two times in Northern Ireland for Vickie's job. Their oldest son, Curtis, is a Sigma Chi from Western Carolina University. Rob keeps up with several Mu Mu brothers like Jeff Miller '78 and John Burdette '79, and his list of friends in the Eastern North Carolina network continues to grow. In fact, after returning from overseas in February, he was soon asked to serve as Assistant Grand Praetor for the region. "I jumped right back in. No regrets." You can connect with Rob at rkjinbelfast@gmail.com. After the game, parents and their sons went downtown to enjoy some more food and drinks at multiple restaurants around the area. We are very appreciative of the parents who could make the trip for such a memorable weekend; we look forward to the next occasion. T he mission is to develop values-based leaders committed to the betterment of character, campus, and community. In the pursuit of these high ideals for 127 years, Mu Mu Chapter has exemplified this vision and mission.
