M anaging risk has long been an active process for Gamma Gamma and led by an undergraduate risk officer; however, the scope of risks was quite narrow in the past. Having just invested heavily in the house, we want to ensure that risks to the long-term care and development of the house and grounds are fully understood and well managed. Additionally, ever-increasing demands are being placed on all organizations and their boards, so the chapter is placing an increased focus on understanding and managing the wide range of risks they face. An alumnus with experience in risk management is working with the chapter to strengthen our efforts and embed these practices. The first step was to update our Mission Statement so that each member understands why our chapter exists and will commit to living accordingly. This was developed by current undergraduates and alumni. ATΩ GAMMA GAMMA'S MISSION • We strive to attract, educate, and welcome strong, diverse classes of young men who, with common values and through shared experiences, desire to develop lifelong bonds of brotherhood. • We deliver unrivaled chapter operations which reflect our highest priorities of brotherhood; personal, social and leadership development; academic excellence; service to others; care for our house; and respect for fellow students, school staff and our alumni. • We rigorously assess the risks to our chapter through our actions and failure to act; we establish standards of conduct and clarity of accountabilities, and will accept nothing less of ourselves than full commitment to each other, and consistent delivery of our Principles. HIGH-LEVEL RISK CATEGORIES Working together, we have also identified six high-level risk areas where we focus our efforts through our operating committees to identify risks, develop plans to mitigate or eliminate these, and assign accountabilities and timelines. n Loss of Relevancy or Reputation n Inability to Attract and Educate Desired Members n Insufficient Continuing Member Development and Support n Inadequate Care and Renewal of Facilities n Uncompetitive Cost Structure and Insolvency n Failure to Maintain Robust Alumni Engagement We are now working through each of these to establish objectives for success, to document the risks, and to ensure accountability for managing them all. This new process is underway and will be fully implemented within the chapter starting in the coming year.
