S pring 2022 has been a semester that we won't soon forget. Between making a difference in the community, expanding our brotherhood, and nurturing connections on and off campus, Gamma Gamma Chapter is staying active well beyond the rigors of the classroom. COMMUNITY IS THE FOUNDATION TO SUCCESS Courtesy of our philanthropic chairmen, Trevor Ley '24 and Shawn Troike '23, Gamma Gamma has made an significant impact in the community, and we've had a blast in the process. Trevor and Shawn conducted a marathon for Riley Hospital for Children in which Gamma Gamma raised $2,875. Additionally, Shawn coordinated a holiday party to raise awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, as well as a Halloween event with proceeds going toward Terre Haute Children's Museum. Like Shawn, Trevor is staying just as active within the community. Trevor led Gamma Gamma's participation for Special Olympics Indiana, raising more than $1,000. Trevor also planned a bowling tournament for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Between Trevor and Shawn, as well as with other enthusiastic brothers, Gamma Gamma is making their mark on the community and changing lives while doing so. STRENGTH IN NUMBERS The Gamma Gamma brotherhood is everchanging and constantly growing. We signed 36 bids, 10 of which were sophomores. On March 13, we initiated 28 men into our growing and diverse fraternity. Our reputation as upstanding, scholarly, and ambitious men will continue to be upheld with these additions to the brotherhood, and we are thrilled to have them. Moving forward, brother Zach Leedy '24 is leading the way for upcoming recruitment cycles. ACADEMIC SUCCESS ONLY WORKS WHEN WE DO Scholarship Chairman Zachary Junker '23 is elated to report that, as of winter 2021, brothers achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.23, ranking us in fourth place of the 11 fraternities and sororities on campus. In winter 2020, Gamma Gamma had a cumulative GPA of 3.12, so we can see a steady increase in academics, in which we all take pride. Working with the handful of young men who are struggling academically, Zach and other brothers work closely with them on choosing classes, getting tutoring and tailoring study time with brothers who are doing better in their academic discipline. This focused approach is not only helping these brothers improve but is significantly helping the entire chapter's academic performance and is a great example of how the fraternity provides an advantage to our brothers. TOGETHERNESS PLUS UNITY EQUALS BROTHERHOOD In November, we joined Zeta Tau Alpha of Indiana State University for a round of mini golf. Instead of visiting an existing course, we took an alternative, and exciting route by converting the chapter house into a nine-hole extravaganza. We also went roller skating with Tri Delta of Rose- Hulman in December. Fostering connections with groups on and off campus allows brothers to expand their horizons and meet a variety of people. For Semiformal in January, we rented out the top floor and patio of 7th and Elm Bar and Restaurant for a casual, laid-back evening of chatting and laughter. Brothers found the event to be a refreshing change of pace, and we look forward to hosting something similar again. LOOKING AHEAD Parent's Weekend is set to take place the first weekend of May, and we are thrilled to show our parents what a typical day for a Gamma Gamma brother looks like. All in all, it's been a productive year.. Whether we're getting involved as a community, brotherhood, or scholarly individuals, we have seen ample progress amongst the men of Gamma Gamma. We look forward to yet another challenging and rewarding year ahead.
