A ΔTΔ bench was recovered by the chapter after being found at the Ithaca ReUse Center. Investigations by Bryce Roth '22 found that the bench originally came from a chapter in Indiana! THE CORDELT BETA OMICRON CHAPTER OF DELTA TAU DELTA AT CORNELL UNIVER SI T Y SPRING 2022 OUR HOME OUR LEGACY F all 2021 has been a fantastic time for Beta Omicron Chapter, including our initiation of 10 men. This is the largest fall pledge class our chapter has seen in years, and every one of our new brothers is eager to lend their talents to expanding our organization. Our brotherhood worked hard this semester to strengthen recruitment efforts, and we are happy to see the fruits of our labor. This semester, we have created many opportunities to connect with new members, including volleyball games, mini-golf outings, private dinners with small groups of brothers at local restaurants, s'mores nights, and game nights. In addition, due to the preparation and recruitment event-planning we have worked on in the fall, we have set the stage for our chapter to yield a large spring 2022 new member class. Currently, we have seven new members who are likely to accept bids, and this number will continue to grow as the semester begins. Homecoming was decreased in scope when Cornell restricted alumni access to the Shelter, unfortunately, but we were still able to have a fantastic tailgate. I would like to thank our alumni chairman, Spencer Hurst '23; Michael Bonacum '11; and House Corporation officers Graham Seward '07, Luke Zabinski '16, Andy Howlett '07, and Justin Hedin '10 for making Homecoming possible and memorable despite the obstacles we faced during this time; without you all, we would not have been able to host. Thank you to all the alumni that came by as well; it would not have been the same without you! With the lessening restrictions of Cornell, we have also been able to put together in-person philanthropy events for the first time this year. Our philanthropy chairman, Spencer Hurst '23, organized a Pie a Delt event where brothers sat on Ho Plaza and offered to be pied in the face for donations to JDRF. We not only raised over $300, but we also strengthened our fraternal bonds and taught our new members the values of our brotherhood. It was refreshing to see the chapter come together in person once more in support of a good cause. Our director of academic affairs, Ben Feldman '22, has also continued our chapter's composting efforts and is working to add a new position to our admin board: environmental sustainability chairman. We hope to continue improving our community in the coming semesters. In addition to our increase in philanthropy, our academics are also thriving. Our cumulative GPA has climbed from past semesters to 3.73. Many brothers have also participated in a variety of courses as staff, including David Wolfers '23 (TA, CS 4700: Foundations of Artificial Intelligence), Questin McQuilkin '24 (TA, CS 2112: Object Oriented Design and Data Structures), and Max Mendoza '22 (MAE 3780: Mechatronics). Our chapter has seen tremendous improvements over the semester, and I am truly proud of the hard work of our brotherhood. We would like to thank everyone for their never-ending support and everlasting dedication and commitment to the values of Delta Tau Delta. A special thanks to our chapter advisor, Jack Thompson '73, and the House Corporation for their unwavering support. In addition, I would like to thank Michael again for being a constant resource for our house and for assisting us in navigating the tumultuous campus situation brought on by COVID this semester. It is only with the gracious and continued spirit and guidance of the alumni network that we can succeed. If you find yourself in the Ithaca area, we encourage you to stop by for a visit. We would love the opportunity to connect with you, share stories of our times in the Shelter, receive guidance, and share our vision for the future with you.
