W orthy Brothers, As local pandemic restrictions continue to ease, the chapter is working to bounce back and prosper in both our academic and fraternity life. All 64 undergraduate brothers are keeping up that momentum, with 21 currently living in our home at 700 N. High Street. With significant protocols no longer enforced around campus, our recruitment officers were free to organize events not unlike earlier years. The fall semester proved to be a worthwhile success; we initiated 22 new members. At the time of writing, eight spring pledges are also making their way toward initiation. Our home at 700 N. High Street has not seen more prosperous days in the past several years than right now. We now have a maintenance repairman on the payroll who handles all issues swiftly and attentively—whether pertaining to door locks, the heating system, lights, or even an occasional scuffmark on a wall. Brothers continue to make strides in cleanliness and general chapter house conditions. We still happily receive Mario's Fishbowl catering (twice daily) and enjoy meals in the basement together prepared by Chef Brian Wilkins. Philanthropic efforts are strong as well. Mu Mu hosted a blood drive at the student rec center on February 24 with the help of the American Red Cross; all 65 donating slots were quickly filled. This past fall, the chapter held hot dog eating contests, at $5 per ticket in our parking lot, raising $515 for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. The chapter's elected philanthropy committee has also begun planning our Derby Days events for the fall. The Independent Interfraternity Council thrives on campus, especially with Brother Gerard Wittstadt III '23 as sitting president. Current members of the IFC include Sigma Chi, Alpha Sigma Phi, Phi Sigma Kappa, and Theta Chi. These four fraternities collaborate on recruitment week, football tailgates, food drives, and the occasional celebration. The chapter is always looking for ways to improve our elected positions, and we have implemented new team structures to support these roles. Teams have been elected in support of major roles, such as a financial committee to advise the quaestor, a ritual team to assist the kustos, and a pro magister to back the magister. This will vastly improve internal chapter operations, helping newer members observe the processes before they eventually fill our shoes. In other good news, Mu Mu alumnus Karl Steinbach '19 continues to make the chapter proud on and off the field; he currently plays baseball with the single-A Cubs affiliate Myrtle Beach Mermen. The undergraduate members would like to thank our worthy alumni brothers for their unwavering support of the chapter in recent years, including the disassociation. We're excited to keep you updated on future events and would love to see you at the chapter house. There's no better way to share old stories and connect within our shared Sigma Chi bonds.
