THE MU MUSE Spring 2022 For active and alumni members of The Sigma Chi Fraternity at West Virginia University Left: Brothers gather in 1995 to celebrate Mu Mu's 100th anniversary. Right: Five Sigma Chi brothers and their wives in Williamsburg, Va., for a four-day reunion celebrating 50 years since graduation. The brothers met in the fall of 1967 at Summit Hall and have been friends ever since. From left: Bill Shingler '71 and Debbie, Todd Ware '71 and Elizabeth, Lou Rocchini '71 and Susan, Bob Joy '71 and Kathy, and Scott Meikle '73 and Janice. A s undergraduate members, we built strong friendships with our brothers. Then we graduated and quickly found many new interests, careers, families, and civic activities that occupied our time and attention. The day-to-day activities of life took over and we began to wonder about the lives of the brothers we went to school with and the new brothers living in the chapter house today. The fraternity helped define who we are today. I can personally say it helped my career and success in business. Most brothers developed lifelong friendships during their years in Sigma Chi; for some, it may have been the place you met your wife, and for others, Mu Mu may have helped develop a son as a legacy. I encourage each of you to reconnect with old brothers and/or get involved in the chapter again. Personally, I have recently called old brothers that I have not talked with in 40 years. It is very gratifying to catch up with men I really liked but lost touch with. Come to the chapter house and watch a ball game with the undergraduate brothers—you will quickly see that things have not changed much. The chapter still has jocks, smack talkers, comedians (or those who think they are), quiet and studious types, and good-looking studs. I could have sworn that I saw brothers from my class in the chapter room (Jaybird, Tyler, Taylor, Stark, Ford, Goldie, Comer, Burke … you know who you are!). Visiting the house on an away game day will help you relive your youth, and I promise you will leave with a smile on your face. There is plenty of opportunity to improve the chapter by joining the House Corporation Board. We are a business that must constantly adjust to a changing environment and challenges. Use your career experience to help improve the chapter. We have work sessions to make improvements each summer. You could also consider attending an initiation, as the undergraduate brothers are always looking for initiation help. Please plan to attend the 125th celebration. Registration is strong, and this is going to be one hell of a party. There are many opportunities to reengage. Please consider giving back some of your time to an organization that helped you grow as person and develop lifelong friendships and bonds.
