For nine months, I attempted to prepare myself based on the anecdotes and experiences of others. Even with all that preparation, I still underestimated everything. I've had the opportunity to reflect and imagine what the future will hold for my daughter. I identified my pride as an alumna of Pi Chapter as a major impact on my life, and I wonder how it will influence her. At the risk of sounding cheesy and cliché, Pi Chapter had a profound effect on me with unforgettable memories during my undergraduate career, including leadership opportunities, friendships, and laying the foundation for continuing professional contacts. I imagine my daughter in our sorority forming lifelong relationships, prioritizing academics while giving back to the community, and enjoying everything the college experience has to offer. Even though I should be impartial, as I am genuinely proud of the entire Greek system at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I can't be truly impartial. I have had the privilege of serving as president of the Affiliated House Corporation (AHC) for Pi Chapter for two years. During this time, I have had the opportunity to keep in touch with current members, and I am continually amazed by their accomplishments, professionalism, engagement, scholastic achievements, and, most importantly, their character. No, I am not impartial at all. Instead, I am in awe of Pi Chapter and have never been prouder to be an alumna. I can only hope that the same opportunities are available for my daughter when she's ready to take her first steps into adulthood. But now, let's focus back to current chapter business. Our active members continue to navigate COVID-19. Undergraduate leadership continues to confront the weekly, if not daily, challenges that the pandemic presents head-on and have dedicated themselves to addressing the evolving situation. As you read in the front-page article by Pi Chapter's president, Abby Rushton '19, things are inching closer to normal—whatever that is! A quick update on our home: Though we have engaged in numerous projects to extend the beauty and life of the house for the past two years, we anticipate a handful of inevitable projects that consist of repairs and general maintenance. Namely, the replacement of essential equipment in the kitchen. With an eye toward the future, the AHC is considering not only repairs that require immediate attention, but also predictable repairs that are required to maintain a safe living space for our active members. We are attempting to work within the constraints of the current supply chain and the challenges it presents.
