T he fall 2021 semester was challenging for Delta Kappa. Attempting to recruit new members during COVID-19 proved difficult; with an all-time low number of first-year students signed up, Recruitment Chairmen Randy St. Clair '19 (Plano, Texas) and Cole Hardy '19 (Keller, Texas) had their work cut out for them. Without many recruitment events, the entire ATΩ chapter stepped up. Brothers took time to meet individually with potential new members, hosting numerous dinners and hangouts. With all our hard work, ATΩ signed one of the largest pledge classes in all of IFC. Our fraternity has always prioritized quality over quantity; we will never sign a potential member to get more money or increase the number of brothers. Instead, ATΩ signs men with passion, determination, respect, and the willingness to help Alpha Tau Omega remain the most sought- after fraternity on campus. Our fall 2021 pledge class fully represented these values. In 2020, ATΩ couldn't hold many philanthropic events or be involved on campus as much as we would've liked. In the fall, the Norman community began to reopen, and we jumped right back into campus involvement through intramural sports, academics, and philanthropy. It was a great fall for intramurals, and ATΩ was in the finals and playoffs in multiple sports. We won the Sand Volleyball Championship, led by Jared Christopher '18 (Houston, Texas), Jack Woodward '19 (Dallas, Texas), Sean Foster '18 (Houston, Texas), Nathan Denson '18 (Carrollton, Texas), and Connor Trapp '18 (Edmond, Oklahoma). Delta Kappa also excelled academically in the fall, with multiple brothers making the President's Honor Roll along with numerous members on the Dean's Honor Roll. Last semester, ATΩ held a 3.11 new member GPA and a 3.29 active member GPA—ranking sixth among 16 IFC chapters for both. With the spring semester underway, we are optimistic about raising these numbers. Philanthropy has always been one of ATΩ's passions, and it was no different this past fall. Through our event Cuts for Cancer, we partnered with Norman Regional Hospital's Paint Out Cancer Campaign to raise money and awareness to fight cancer in the local community. During the event, led by Mike McFadden '18 (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and Jack Woodward '19 (Dallas, Texas), over 50 ATΩs volunteered to get their heads shaved in exchange for a $30 donation toward the cause. Spectators could watch for $10. It was a great success; we had over 250 donations, raising over $10,000 for the Norman community! We embrace the ability to make a difference in our community and appreciate the values and principles we learn from our philanthropic events. This semester, we look forward to participating in more events, including our annual Gatorfest, which benefits the Wounded Warrior Project. Looking back at the fall semester, although it was difficult at times, Delta Kappa pushed through and made the most of the year. As the spring semester progresses, we look forward to what it will bring to the brotherhood.
