e Washington Alpha Delt 6 S ophomore Alban Vukaj '23 has played football from a young age, despite being one of the smaller members of his team. In his sophomore year of high school, he decided he wanted to change that and get stronger. He did his own research and soon pursued powerliing. "I was weak and had no idea what I was doing," Alban said, "but I stuck with it and ended up falling in love with challenging myself day in and day out." Four years later, Alban still lis and has even competed once: he currently holds the state record of 1521 lbs. in the 93kg Teen III division. Even so, he sees it more as a hobby than a sport. "e only real competition I feel is with myself; my goal is always LIFTING BROTHERS UP Alban Vukaj '23 Appreciates the Passion of Washington Chapter to get stronger and stay healthy. I believe that's the healthiest way to look at liing and fitness in general, so that is what I always tell newcomers." Alban came to the University of Washington because of the construction management program. In the beginning, he was positive he would never join a fraternity, but he had close friends in Alpha Delta Phi who convinced him to come to the Chapter House and meet some Brothers. "I got on well with everyone, but most importantly, I saw that every single person was truly passionate about something," he remembers. "If someone is truly passionate about a topic or activity, I want to be around them, regardless of what it is." One of Alban's favorite ADPhi experiences so far has been the annual Vantage event for Memorial Day. "ere is nothing better than heading out to an uninhabited sand dune with over a hundred friends and having an absolute blast of a weekend on the Columbia River." In general, he has enjoyed the little things, such as catching up with one another aer class, "or late nights doing absolutely nothing—but making sure we have a good time doing it." Alban grew up in Edmonds, Washington. His parents are Albanian immigrants, and the family frequently travels back home. Alban plans to pursue the construction field and hopes to get into the sales/executive side eventually, as he loves traveling and public speaking. "Alpha Delta Phi has been an incredible influence on my life. Spending every day around such motivated men has really made an impact on me, and I hope to return the favor in the future."
