The Missouri Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Theta gave him that opportunity. He noticed that the chapter was made up of a diverse group of men and knew he would fit right in. "Phi Delta Theta gave me an opportunity to live with a bunch of guys from all over the place. It taught me about brotherhood and the fact that no matter what your background is, we all have a lot in common," Chris said. Chris has many fond memories from his time in Missouri Alpha, including themed parties and formals; however, his favorite memories are of spending time with his closest brothers. A few years after graduating from Mizzou, Chris and brothers Matt Beckett '96, Pat Ryan '93, and Joe Bechtold '90 bicycled from Kansas City to St. Louis where they stopped to watch an Illinois football game. Chris loves to travel with Pat Ryan; they have been to Europe a few times and climbed Mt. Elbert in Colorado. It's bonds like these that continue to this day. In addition to his role as vice president of commercial banking at Central Bank in Columbia, Missouri, Chris is the Phi Delt board treasurer. He values his service to Phi Delta Theta and enjoys staying connected to the fraternity. Most of the men he serves with on the board lived in the house during his undergraduate years. The board's focus is to help the members succeed while ensuring the house thrives. "I've enjoyed working with these guys who have been instrumental in bringing the house back to where it was when we were there," Chris said. "We want to make sure the guys living in the house have every opportunity that we had." To Chris, the most important takeaway from the house is the lifelong friendships that are made. "You know the value of a friendship when you haven't talked to a brother in years, but when you do, it's as if no time has passed; they are still the same," Chris said. "Those are the friendships you value the most in life." Mizzou remains a large part of Chris' family. He met his wife, Julie, in school, and his three daughters currently attend Mizzou. In his free time, he enjoys hunting and going on adventures. Chris can be reached at Chris.Widmer@centralbank.net.
