3 CHI OMEGA KEEPING CHI OMEGA EVER AT HEART Geri Fitzgarrald Martin '44 Shares Why She Supported Mu Chapter's Supporting Our Sisters Campaign Alumnae Updates W hile the Mu chapter undergraduate experience has been so special to so many sisters over the years, Chi Omega's mission to cultivate a lifetime of purpose really comes to light when young women graduate from college and go on to serve the world. Such has been the case for one of Mu chapter's oldest living alumnae, Geri Fitzgarrald Martin '44. Geri hasn't had much close contact with Mu chapter since graduating—she's traveled extensively and lived all over the world—but that hasn't diminished what Chi Omega means to her. At 96 and living in Naples, Florida, (some 3,000 miles from Berkeley!) Geri recently showed what it means to keep Chi Omega ever at heart by contributing to the Mu chapter house corporation's Supporting Our Sisters campaign. "I have such fond memories of Mu chapter, and it really had a big impact on my life," Geri said. "It was their time of need. I feel most fortunate to be able to do it and was happy to do it." Family has been the root of Geri's life, and she has Mu chapter to thank. It was in the Chi Omega chapter house where she met her late husband, Lee. Geri's career also centered around her work with her family's foundation. "I was most fortunate to be involved in a family foundation that is a charitable foundation," Geri said. "Since my interest was social welfare, I've been most blessed to do that. The success of the foundation has been very gratifying." Geri's two favorite pastimes have been spending time with her family and traveling. She has two sons, two daughters, 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandsons. Geri is thankful to take what she learned from her time as a Chi Omega active member to become the best mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that she can be. "Chi Omega was a blessing in my life," Geri said. "I'm ever so lucky to have had the association and the opportunity to be a Chi Omega. Even though I haven't had the opportunity to be active since I graduated, it's part of me and always will be." You can connect with Geri at faithmar@aol.com. T he chapter held formal recruitment virtually again this year and brought home 34 amazing new members! We then moved forward with COB and expanded our new pledge class to 40. We welcomed our members home with a "Love You Like XΩ" Valentine's Day-themed Bid Day, and the chapter has been enjoying getting to know each and every one of our new members this year. She likes Phoenix, and one of her daughters lives about 15 minutes from her. Virginia has eight grandchildren who are all young adults, and she loves spending time with them. She doesn't have any great- grandchildren yet. She looks back at her days at Cal and the Chi O house and reflects on how lucky she is to have such great memories.
