alpha chi omega | page 4 W armest greetings from all the women at Alpha Nu! I am so happy to share everything that our chapter has accomplished these past few months. Our chapter members were thrilled to receive the 2020 National Council Trophy as the best large chapter in the nation! We are extremely proud of this achievement and appreciate our chapter members and leaders who made this possible. It was a wonderful surprise to receive the award and to have our National President, Lynne Herndon, present the trophy to us. That day, chapter members were working hard during sisterhood week to prepare for the upcoming recruitment. This was such a special treat for our chapter and served as a great motivator to share with the potential new members—as well as the campus and community—the one-of-a-kind sisterhood we have at the Alpha Nu Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega. We celebrated the day with a variety of desserts and beverages and lots of pictures! We are grateful to our 2020 and 2021 executive boards, which worked hard to implement needed changes to create membership experiences that truly embody what Alpha Chi Omega is about. Going forward, we are committed to continuing excellence for future generations of Alpha Chi Omegas. In light of the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, Alpha Chi Omega Headquarters issued a mask mandate for all facilities. All members, guests, alumnae and staff must wear masks regardless of vaccination status. Alpha Nu is so grateful to continue allowing members to live in our home at 900 Richmond Ave. and to have members involved around campus and in community activities. This included participating in person for 2021 formal recruitment and welcoming 68 wonderful new members! We continue to monitor the facility and adjust according to CDC, local and state health organizations and Alpha Chi Omega Headquarters recommendations. Academically, we had an incredible spring 2021 semester. Alpha Nu achieved a chapter GPA of 3.58. An impressive 107 members made the Dean's List and 38 members earned a 4.0 GPA. We could not be prouder of our sisters and their dedication to furthering one of our most fundamental values—academic excellence. Service remains a high priority at the chapter. During spring 2021, we raised approximately $22,500! Our philanthropy team worked hard to create new and unique ways to raise awareness of domestic violence. This year, Alpha Nu hosted its very first Pie an Alpha Chi, an event where sisters could get a pie thrown in their face by campus and community members who bought a ticket (members were able to work the event as well). Alpha Chi also hosted two karaoke events that members paid a ticket fee to attend. The profits from the ticket sales, as well as a percentage of profits made from food and beverages provided at the venue, were donated to True North of Columbia, our local beneficiary. We have numerous events this fall and are excited to see how much money we can raise and how we can impact awareness of this incredibly worthy cause! Alpha Nu enjoyed participating in Mizzou's 110th homecoming on October 9 with the men of Theta Chi. The overall theme was video games, and our specific theme was the game Guitar Hero. We placed third overall for the week. Here are the results: Blood Drive, 1st; House Decs, 5th; Parade, 3rd; Service, 3rd; Decorate the District, 4th; and Talent, 3rd. During spring semester, Alpha Nu participated in Greek Week 2021 with the men of Sigma Phi Delta and Pi Kappa Phi, placing fifth overall. Our sisters at Alpha Nu love to collaborate with other Greek organizations from different councils and consider ourselves lucky and blessed to be able to do so. We are so excited for this semester and cannot wait to share all our future accomplishments! On behalf of Alpha Nu, thank you for your continued love and support. Feel free to visit our home anytime—alumnae are always welcome behind our little red door. A lpha Nu celebrated its 68 new members on Bid Day in person on August 20, a far cry from last year's virtual welcome. Members wore bright neon colors for the '90s theme, New Bids on the Block, and kept the celebration outdoors for safety purposes. Lifetime members greeted their Alpha Pals with T-shirts and other gifts. The new member class is composed of six sophomores and 62 freshman. They are from nine different states (with 41 from Missouri). There were 1,250 young women who registered for recruitment, approximately the same as in 2020. Alpha Nu reached quota of 62 and received six quota additions. After formal recruitment, the chapter had approximately 250 members. The new member class is academically oriented—the average high school GPA is 3.8, and the average ACT score is 25. While many have not yet declared their majors, 17 are journalism or pre-journalism and 30 have indicated they are interested in health care professions. The first round of recruitment in 2021 at Mizzou was virtual. Chapters and potential new members both prepared videos. Members and potential members then met via Zoom for the open house round. The remaining rounds—philanthropy, sisterhood and preference—were conducted in person with masks. The new members were initiated in mid-October. Sisters in white dresses on Preference Day. Sisters in pink shirts and white bottoms for Philanthropy Day.
