In fact, the origins of mazes and labryinths (complex, usually circular structures) go back thousands of years, to the ancient Greeks and romans. they used maze and labyrinth designs on the floors of their homes and even their streets. later, mazes were featured in artwork and architecture throughout europe in cathedrals, castles and gardens. by the 18th century, hedge mazes became popular in england and europe, and eventually came to america, in the form of a corn maze. How is a corn maze made? • In the spring, corn is planted in a field in a grid-shaped pattern. • Planting the correct type of corn is important; the stalks must be strong, and grow to be high enough to make a successful corn maze come fall. • When the corn is about 1-2 feet tall, the maze pattern is mowed out www.OfficialkidsMag.com • OctOber 2021 • 7
