PREPARING FOR LEADERS OF TOMORROW What We Have Done VIRTUE DILIGENCE BROTHERLY LOVE • SigEp was the 2021 Overall Greek Week champions. • Our facility is substance-free. • Our brothers are focused on philanthropy. In a COVID-safe environment, we teamed up with the women of Delta Delta Delta to host a socially distant drive-thru cookout benefiting the children at St. Jude. • Our fall 2020 GPA was 3.29. This compares to an all-men's GPA of 3.06 and IFC GPA of 3.38. With the return of in-person classes along with continued hard work and dedication, we hope to increase our GPA. • Chapter President Kyle Ruder '22 was appointed director of risk management for IFC. • Kansas Beta won the Buchanan Cup in 1967, 1983, 1985, 1993, 2001, 2005, 2007, and 2011. • Our 2019-20 intramural basketball team brought home their second title in four years! SigEp beat Theta Xi in the championship game 54-49. • We have 85 active members with 58 living in-house. • Kyle Ruder '21 and Jack Morrissey '21 represented Kansas Beta at SigEp's biannual Conclave in Houston, Texas, in July 2019. Both Kyle and Jack were able to network, learn, and vote on policies for the National Board. Students today have a much different learning experience and are facing new challenges. The advent of the internet, smartphones, social media, and other digital communication has clearly altered our world. While students today may be more connected than ever before, they still need personal relationships and genuine human interaction. More than 80% of college students deal with anxiety and more than 60% also feel socially isolated/lonely and depressed (JED Foundation, 2020). The community that Kansas Beta provides is the solution to this need. Greek-affiliated students report higher positive mental health scores and lower levels of depression and anxiety (Biddix, Assalone and Grace, 2020). Greek members show greater overall involvement and engagement on campus and report stronger learning gains and satisfaction with the college experience (Pike, 2020). Fraternity, done right, is still a part of a well-balanced college experience. Growth outside of the classroom is part of a well-rounded collegiate experience. Kansas Beta provides opportunities for members to grow in ways they cannot in the classroom, including facilitating social interaction with mixers and events with sororities and other Greek organizations, giving back to the community through philanthropy and service, and helping brothers build a strong network to support them through their lifetimes. Beginning fall 2022, first-year students at Kansas State University will be required to live on campus during their first two semesters. Fraternity and sorority facilities will count as on-campus housing, allowing SigEp to support each brother's transition into college life. A diverse membership will have the most benefit for Kansas Beta members and the future of the Chapter. Our Chapter has been the strongest when bringing in members from all over Kansas and out of state. SigEp offers the Balanced Man Scholarship program as a tool chapters can use to find men who embody the Fraternity's values and ideals. This scholarship will help in recruiting great students, strong leaders, and well-rounded brothers by developing a diverse applicant pool. We will take full advantage of this program to make sure we always have a strong and diverse brotherhood. Where We Are Going
