KANSAS BETA—BUILDING BROTHERLY BONDS FOR OVER 100 YEARS F ebruary 23, 1918, is an important date for all of us. On this day, Kansas Beta was officially founded, and our Chapter's story began. The founders of Kansas Beta carefully considered which fraternal organization they would be a part of and determined the high ideals and values of Sigma Phi Epsilon would be the greatest appeal for future brothers. From Uncle Billy and Dr. John R. MacArthur in 1892 to our newest 2021 initiates, Kansas Beta has provided a home and community for boys to become balanced men. All Kansas Betas have been impacted by our brotherhood. Even though our values and brotherhood connect us, every Kansas Beta experience is different. Generational differences are ever-present throughout our 100-year history, and our home has changed significantly over time. From moving into 1015 Sunset in 1954 to the introduction of the Zappa Deli in the 1980s and our most recent renovation in the early 2000s, Kansas Beta has adapted to accommodate the changing needs of our collegiate brothers in Manhattan. The current generation of students is at a similar crossroads. Across campus, we have seen our peers upgrade and update their facilities with the advent of the internet; their desire for more communal spaces and changing student dynamics have not yet been addressed at Kansas Beta. It is time again for us to invest in our Chapter House to ensure the SigEp experience best facilitates balanced men for today's collegiate environment. "There is no question that I would not have finished my degree at Kansas State without the structure and brotherhood found at 1015 Sunset. It's important for alumni to perpetuate that experience by giving back to young men who need our guidance and support." - Ron Lackey '91, AVC member
