Page 3 Beta Sigma Psi W ith the start of the new year, the men of Beta Sigma Psi returned to campus with bigger ambitions for the spring semester. We gained two associate members this semester, bringing our active total to 34 members. We also celebrated the gradua- tion of four wonderful brothers: Ryan Fry '18, Collin Marshall '19, Chris Mikeworth '18, and Chandler Parrish '19. As the state of our country and community improved, Beta Chapter was able to be more in- volved on campus this spring! We are proud to have multiple brothers involved with University Lutheran, including some in officer roles such as church president. Athletics made a return to campus, and our intramural ultimate frisbee team went undefeated! We also ran a go-kart for this year's Grand Prix for the first time in three years. We were not yet able to host any philanthropy events, but we did continue our skip-a-meals through local restaurants to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. With the overhaul in classroom formats this past year, we are proud to say our academics were still among the best on campus. Last semester we had a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and a semester GPA of 3.24. These marks placed us within the top 10 fraternities on campus, with 10 brothers receiving semester honors and four making the dean's list. With the adversity that we faced on campus this semester, it was great to not only witness but participate in the building of our brotherhood across eras during the landscaping project in April. This proves that no matter what comes our way, our brotherhood's strength will prevail. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the project. We hope you all remain safe in these troubling times. Per aspera ad astra. Yours in Christ, Richard Howey '20 Chapter President rhowey@purdue.edu Brothers Rise to the Challenge High Grades and Service Efforts Continue through Pandemic SPRING 2021 ALUMNI AND ACTIVES ALL-HANDS WORK SESSION O n April 16-17, to prepare for the "We're Back!" event and to support recruitment, alumni and actives rolled up their collective sleeves and worked together on a little "sprucing up" of the property around the Chapter House. The improvements were funded by generous alumni nationwide, and we want to thank everyone who contributed, both financially and physically. reCruitment is Constant How You Can Help Preserve Our Brotherhood R ecruitment is a year-round focus for Beta Sig. As one of the most important aspects of Fraternity life, recruitment allows Beta to continue our tradition of excellence by finding the best Christian men at Purdue and teaching them the ways of our great Fraternity. Recruitment is not an isolated undergraduate event; we need active involvement from all men of Beta Chapter, especially alumni. This year, we ask that you play an active role in recruitment. To remain one of the best fraternities at Purdue, we put in hours upon hours of work every year. We reach out to potential new members through phone calls, social media, and face-to-face interactions. It involves a lot of hard work and a large amount of funding. The budget supports recruitment events such as dinners around town, and other social events at the Chapter House during the summer. We would love to actively engage a larger group of alumni in the recruitment process, so we encourage recommendations of potential new members, and invite alumni to summer recruitment events if you live in the West Lafayette area and would like to become more involved with recruitment, please contact our Chapter President Richard Howey '20 at rhowey@purdue.edu. Every contribution helps as we work to maintain Beta Sig's legacy as a home for the best Christian men. (Continued on page 4) The money was put to good use and, through a lot of good old-fashioned elbow grease and hard work, resulted in a dramatic improvement to the curb appeal of the Chapter House. In the end, though, the greatest benefit was the continued bonding between actives and alumni, working together to cultivate a warm and welcoming place where young, Christian men can grow spiritually, scholastically, and socially. We continue to see the great things we can accomplish together "through Christ who strengthens [us]" (Philippians 4:13).
