Cherishing the Chance to Give Back KEYping Up with Kappa 4 "Gamma Zeta ranks in the top three academically among sororities on campus," Gayle said. "Many of our seniors are doing amazing internships or going on to graduate school. It is important that we do our part to continue the legacy of recruiting and developing strong, intelligent women who can be successful in their work and personal life." While serving as chapter president and house manager, Gayle gained valuable leadership and public speaking skills that she applied to her various jobs. She spent her entire career in the fashion industry, which included being a buyer and store manager for department store chains Macy's and May Company and being a college recruiter for a major fashion college for 15 years. "As a buyer, I loved selecting merchandise for 34 stores and monthly buying trips to New York," Gayle said. "As a college recruiter, I loved working with creative high school and college students and helping them identify their niche in the fashion industry." In retirement, Gayle and her husband have been fortunate to travel the world, including trips to India, Europe, and South America. They're looking forward to resuming their travels in the fall. They also enjoy spending as much time as they can with their family. Their oldest daughter is a Kappa from the University of Southern California and has given them three grandchildren whom they adore. Their youngest daughter is getting married in September. Several years ago, Gayle attended two reunions in Phoenix and Tucson that included sisters from the 1970 and 1971 new member classes. Some of those sisters also attended the Kappa Centennial in January 2020 and are planning to get together again when it is safe to do so. "Suzie Hood '70 has been my best friend since college," Gayle said. "Although we live in separate states, we always keep in touch and support each other in all our life experiences." You can connect with Gayle at gbakshi77@gmail.com. (Continued from page 1) "I want to ensure that future Gamma Zetas have the same meaningful experiences that I did. I also realized that with the current large membership (344 women), we need to keep our house updated and safe for our members." G amma Zeta sisters were ecstatic to participate in our first internal fundraiser this spring. We enjoyed helping you, our loyal alumnae, in raising money for the Kappa Kampaign that will go toward scholarship opportunities and house improvements. Unfortunately, the pandemic caused many of our active members to struggle with paying dues. This opportunity to raise money that has benefitted and will benefit women in our chapter is essential to the success of our sisterhood. We raised money through individual Crowdchange pages and sold Kappa "Through the Decades" T-shirts. The fundraiser was a huge success, as we raised $3,500. We can't thank our families, friends, and alumnae enough for all their support!
