IN SUPPORT OF ALPHA PHI AND GREEK LIFE P i Kappa Alpha offered us all a living- learning-leadership experience, where we developed into the men we are today. For much of our tenure at Iowa State, our chapter was a leader on campus and within the Greek community. Pi Kappa Alpha had a long tradition of academic excellence, campus involvement, athletic success, and sincere brotherhood. Along with giving young men the chance to build lifelong friendships and develop essential social and leadership skills, the fraternity also offers its members the opportunity to make and learn from their mistakes. As you may know, the undergraduates undoubtedly made errors in judgment and struggled to hold one another to expected Pi Kappa Alpha values, conduct guidelines, and financial and academic standards. Because of this, the Alpha Phi Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha elected to resign their charter and go quiet in spring 2020. Following this decision, the alumni leadership worked to uncover the root cause of the chapter's failure and subsequently address these issues with a renovated and expanded facility, scholarship opportunities, and increased alumni, university, and international fraternity involvement. With support from both Iowa State University and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Alpha Phi Chapter is planning a strong return to campus in fall 2021. Alpha Phi's alumni advisory board, alumni association, and housing corporation have been preparing and working together to ensure local alumni support is in place prior to the expansion. We look forward to rebuilding Pi Kappa Alpha as the leading fraternity at Iowa Stateāa house filled with young men who embody the ideals that our founders envisioned, and who we all would be proud to call Pikes. ALPHA PHI CHAPTER 2 January 15, 2021 Joseph F. Wegelin, President Alpha Phi Alumni Association The Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity Alexander Olson, President Alpha Phi House Corporation The Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity Joe and Alex, Certainly 2020 has impacted so many on a variety of fronts, but as we turn the corner and look to the offerings of what 2021 can bring, the International Fraternity is excited about what opportunities lie ahead. On behalf of the International Fraternity please let this letter serve as notice of Pi Kappa Alpha's intent to return to Iowa State University in the fall of 2021. The International Fraternity, in working with Iowa State University's Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) office, was able to secure a return of Pi Kappa Alpha to Iowa State. However, I would be remised if I did not acknowledge a return could not have been achieved without the commitment, support, and working relationship the two of you and other engaged alumni had with the FSL office prior to the chapter's departure from the community. Fraternity staff will be working in the coming months to prepare for the fall 2021 expansion. As you very well know, this will be a considerable effort underwritten by the International Fraternity to achieve the level of success we all can expect in the establishment of a new group. The Fraternity will be looking to you both and others to aid in identifying and cultivating our local alumni advising support for the provisional chapter. The Fraternity looks forward to continuing our collective efforts, along with other engaged alumni, to shepherd the return of the future Alpha Phi Chapter. Sincerely, Lance A. Horner Chief Operating Officer cc: Dzenan Berberovic, Regional President Justin Buck, Executive Vice President Kyle Pane, Director of Expansion Perhaps the biggest attribute of a fraternity is that it teaches us values one simply cannot learn in a classroom. That was true in 1868 and still holds true today. Men coming together in friendship, pledging to make a life caring for others as they care for themselves, is the true purpose of our organization. We will not let this setback stop us from giving the young leaders of tomorrow a home at Iowa State.
