MO ALPHA PHI M I S S O U R I A L P H A C H A P T E R O F P H I D E L T A T H E T A THE UNIVERSIT Y OF MISSOURI SPRING 2021 The Brighter Days Are Ahead We Can't Wait to Welcome You Back H ere at Phi Delta Theta, brotherhood is something that we continuously strive for. It is important that everyone in the chapter knows one another on a deep level, and we ensure this by having brotherhood events. We have found numerous ways to keep each other involved through a variety of activities. At the beginning of the semester, we got a vast majority of our chapter together to participate in our annual winter Olympics, which includes sporting events such as hockey. With the recent warm weather, we've been playing pickup basketball and sand volleyball games with in-house and out-of- house members. Not only do these games require teamwork, but they also bring the entire chapter closer together. This urges the under and upperclassmen to get to know each other and establish zero separation between pledge classes. Even though the pandemic has produced restrictions with guests, we are still able to come together and continue our exceptional brotherhood, which we feel is top tier. As our spring Phikeia are undergoing their education process, our fraternity has begun recruitment for the fall 2021 pledge class. We expect to meet with potential new members and pursue informal recruitment throughout this summer and the beginning of next fall. In addition to informal recruitment, we will partake in the formal recruitment process throughout the few weeks leading up to school. We are hoping to recruit around 50 Phikeia for the fall class of 2021. We are proud to announce that one of Missouri Alpha's own, Cole Halcomb '22, has been picked as a top 10 Greek Week royalty candidate. Cole is a member of the Beta pledge class and a senior this spring studying bioprocess engineering. He is a former executive board member who served as one of our co-recruitment chairs. He is involved with AASB, the Homecoming steering committee, and Mizzou Student Ambassadors. Cole also serves as a staff director at Camp Kesem, which serves children who have been impacted by cancer during their childhood. We are so proud of Cole and believe he will be a great representation of the house this Greek Week. As things start returning to normal, we hope to see you in Columbia this fall. Whether you're at a football game or driving through, feel free to stop by the house and meet some of the fantastic men in Phi Delt. Yours in the Bond, Grant Bertucci '23 Chapter President gmbqc8@mail.missouri.edu A s Mike Ruesler '15 reflects on his time with Missouri Alpha, he can't help but appreciate the countless friendships he's made, which have had lasting impacts on his life. Finding a smaller community through Greek life appealed to him early on, and the Phi Delts he bonded with in those four years helped inspire him as an undergraduate and continue to shape him today. "The amount of knowledge I gained through those friendships and my experiences while in the fraternity have allowed me to grow as a person and develop as a professional," he said. That professional development has lasted through college and beyond. As a junior, Mike started working at Centurion Stone for Travis Condict '93, and he soon accepted a full-time sales position while finishing his engineering degree. He has been with the company for eight years and has enjoyed success and growth in his roles. Following in Travis' footsteps, Mike too helped hire several Phi brothers for part- time jobs while in school. Mike joined the housing corporation after graduation to stay involved and give back to the place that had given him so much. He has also served on the chapter advisory board for several years and is now honored to serve as the new housing corporation president. "I want to thank Chris Crocker '96 for his commitment and dedication to the house over the past 15-plus years as president. We look forward to his continued advice and service as a board member."
