Don was born March 15, 1940 in Cottonwood to Wil- liam "Pete" and Jenny May Morgan. Don was a Sar- geant for the Tehama County Sheriffs Dept. and served for over 20 years. Don was an avid fisherman, and loved to hunt, but the love of his life was his wife Shirley, and his grandchil- dren. He will sorely be missed by all of his family and friends and especially his grand-children. The love that "Papa Don" showed his grandchildren was second to none, and his love will live forever in their heart. Don is survived by his loving and devoted wife Shirley, son Todd Mor- gan of Benicia, CA., step- daughters Landingham of Gerber and Stacey Zozule (Gerry) of San Diego, CA., step-son Robert (Kristina) of Vina, CA., nine grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, brother Ri- chard of Cottonwood and numerous nieces and neph- ews. This year, it specifically honors families of those who have lost a child during the past year, Faydra Rector of Faydra and Company said. The event started after Rector met Michelle Nichols who had founded National Hug Your Kids Day the year before after los- ing her son to brain cancer. This year, the event will go global as Pfiz- er takes it to the Philippines, she said. “Rhonda Meadows and I started it locally to give back to our local community,” said Rector, one of the event organizers. “This year we really wanted to honor the families who don’t have kids to hug. Our local com- munity’s seen so much tragedy lately.” One of the more recent deaths was that of Suzanne Schoelen’s 10-year-old son who died in January from meningitis. “Being a parent who lost a child to us it’s a way to publicly show how important it is to make that public affection of a hug,” Schoe- len said. “It’s about letting children know how much they’re loved by actions and not just words.” Schoelen said she remembers driving past A graveside service will tions may be made to your local Hospice or the Ameri- can Cancer Society. Not because they’re bad parents, but because that’s just how it was in their family.” While she will not be able to hug her son, she said she will be hugging her 16-year-old daughter and 13 and 3-year-old sons at Mon- day’s event. Jennifer Botell, the mother of 9-year-old Tommy Botell who died in July 2009 in a rock slide at Lassen National Park, is another parent who will be attending Monday’s event without one of her children. “It’s about taking the time out of your busy schedule and celebrating the kids in your life,” Botell said. “We have asked many of the families in our county that have also lost chil- dren this year to join in this celebration and honor their unforgettable children. We are asking the whole community to join us.” The event will start exactly at noon at the Cone & Kimball Plaza on the corner of Wal- nut and Main streets and should be conclud- Red Bluff, CA passed away on July 13, 2010.
