ALPHA TAU OMEGA • GAMMA GAMMA CHAPTER ROSE-HULMAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY • FALL 2020 I am excited to be communicating with my fellow alumni through Gamma Gamma Chapter's new biannual alumni newsletter, Tau Talk. My personal goal has always been to keep our brothers connected with the active chapter and other alumni. Getting alumni to know brothers from generations other than their own is a high priority. These newsletters will do that for us, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help with this initiative. If you have been to a Homecoming since 1995, then you have likely met me already. If we haven't met, I am J.P. Williams '99, ME Class of 1999. The Tau Talk newsletter will include concise reports on all things pertinent to Gamma Gamma from the active chapter, the Housing Corporation, and the Board of Trustees. Additionally, we will include pictures from the active chapter and alumni gatherings, alumni spotlights, alumni announcements, and Chapter Eternal notices. It's been a tough year with no Homecoming to look forward to, but tough times don't last, tough people do. I am so proud to be a member of Alpha Tau Omega. I doubt I could have made it through the Rose-Hulman gamut of challenges and enjoy the life I have today without my brothers helping me along the way. I am really looking forward to seeing all my brothers again in person. Feel free to connect with me on Facebook and LinkedIn. My postings on those accounts are all things related to Gamma Gamma. If you have questions, need anything, have an announcement, or know a brother who is deserving of a spotlight feature, please contact me. Also, any contact information updates you may have can be sent my way. I would love to hear from another alumni brother. Williams '99 Alumni Relations Coordinator (405) 642-1427 | jpsmail@cox.net WELCOME TO TAU TALK T he Gamma Gamma Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega is comprised of two boards: the Housing Corporation Board (HCB) and the Board of Trustees (BOT). If you've ever come back for Homecoming and sat in the Formal Room, typically on Saturday prior to the football game, then you also attended the Annual Meeting of the HCB. The HCB owns the chapter house and serves as landlord to the chapter members. The HCB recently renewed their lease with Rose-Hulman (the house sits on university owned land), and they are responsible for the maintenance of the house as well as the costs associated with the chapter's budget. Meanwhile, the BOT is working with the executive committee of the active chapter. The BOT is charged with mentoring the active chapter leadership and guiding the chapter to make good decisions. The BOT often is in the trenches working with the active chapter, from setting goals to holding brothers and leadership accountable. The BOT helps with bill collection and annual financial audits, assists with day-to-day maintenance issues at the house, offers guidance with recruitment and membership education, encourages scholarships, and sometimes acts as a liaison to Rose administration. If there is an issue with the active chapter, it's the BOT who will be involved in working through those challenges. Both boards are important to the future of the chapter as they work to position these young men for success. If you would like to learn more about either board, or would like to become a board member, please reach out to Tyler Kimbrell '11, HCB President, at tyler.kimbrell@cummings.com.
