An Army veteran, he served with the Signal Corps in Europe during World War II. He received his bachelor's degree from Rose Poly-Technic and his master's degree from Purdue University. Mark married Miriam Ferrall Rippetoe on May 20, 1950, in Terre Haute. He worked at Allison's for 40 years as an engineer. Educated as an electrical engineer, he became an acoustician, largely self-taught. He reduced the vibration of a variety of helicopter and aircraft gas turbine engines to make them run quieter and longer. After retiring in 1989, Mark honed his woodworking skills. He designed and crafted many beautiful gifts for his family, including dollhouses, jewelry boxes, desks and other furniture pieces. He was active for many years making toys for the Archdiocese Christmas Store and other charitable organizations. He was a member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Danville. Robert L. Trotter '58 entered Chapter Eternal on January 16 at Hickory Point Christian Village. He was employed by Illinois Power as an engineer for 38 years. He married Janet Widick on October 16, 1960, in Maroa, Ill. Bob served in the United States Army Reserve, and he enjoyed sailing on Lake Decatur where he was a member of Commodore Decatur Yacht Club. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sports events, watching the Chicago Bears, and keeping his regular schedule at Gold's Gym. ALUMNI NEWS Frederick E. Wheeler '53 moved to California to pursue his career in aerospace with TRW (now Northrup Grumman). He was married to his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Hammond, for decades, and they raised three children. Marge passed away a number of years ago and was fortunate to share the past 20 years with Fred. Fred later married Carolyn, and they traveled to Terre Haute a number of years ago and toured Rose-Hulman. He has many fond memories of his college days and early childhood days in Indiana. His favorite memory of Rose-Hulman is when his professor gave an example to his class of the meaning of "infinity" by throwing a piece of chalk out the window. "Gone forever." He was most recently president and CEO of Unique Fabricating Inc., a publicly held supplier of automotive and industrial acoustical and sealing products. Smith '85 retired from the Army as a colonel after serving almost 30 years. He's now the director of the Alabama Aviation College, which has almost 500 students on campus.
