T his past August, Epsilon Iota participated in a completely virtual primary recruitment—something that has never been done before in Kappa Delta history. Although an entirely virtual recruitment was challenging, messy, and presented its own difficulties, it was so beautiful to see recruitment stripped down to its most raw and real components: conversation and connection. Our chapter has always placed a strong emphasis on authenticity throughout recruitment, but this year we took that to the next level. With support from alumnae, our members focused on leading a values-based recruitment and learned how to recruit women virtually by centering conversations on our morals, principles, and goals. Our vision for this recruitment was to have difficult and raw conversations with PNMs because it was taking place in an environment like no other. We focused on belonging, preaching to the PNMs that they belong and have a place within the Panhellenic and Mizzou communities. As a chapter, we wanted PNMs to feel valued and empowered in a time where it is so easy to feel isolated and alone. All of these workshops allowed our members to foster deeper and more authentic connections with PNMs, making our recruitment one of the most successful in Epsilon Iota history. Of the 1,256 PNMs who registered to participate in Mizzou's primary recruitment, we secured a pledge class of 61 amazing new members on Bid Day, welcoming them into our lifelong sisterhood.
