He was the son of the late Jay Earlis Watts and Doris Irene Crowe Watts. In addi- tion to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 broth- ers, Billy Wayne Watts and Jerry Douglas Watts. Robert served our country in the U.S. Air Force, where he received a Vietnam Service Medal and a National Defense Service medal. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Dianne Watts; his son, Robert Earl "Bobby" Watts II; his brother, Ronnie Lee Watts and his wife Debbie; and his sister, Donna Kay Watts, all of Bostic; 2 sis- ters-in-law, Betty Jean Watts of Gadsden, AL, and Jackie Lynn Cole and her husband Hugh, of Bostic; a brother-in- law, Ronnie Mack Reid and his wife Pat, of Sanford. A Private Graveside Service with Military Honors was held at the First Baptist Church of Bostic Cemetery. The Rev. Ned Owens officiated, and his close friend Mike McPherson gave special music. He was born in Cherokee County, SC, son of the late Wallace Gray and Lillian Isabel Panther Stawls and was preceded in death by his brother, Barry Glenn Stawls and two infants siblings, David and Linda Stawls. Kent was born June 1, 1958 in Rutherford County to the late Frank "Chunk" Shytles and Amelia Putman Shytles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Curt Shytles. ARLIS RAY HOLMES Arlis Ray Holmes, 75, of Whisnant Street, Shelby, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at his resi- dence. Born in Kansas on October 10, 1945, he was the son of the late Ira S. Holmes and Lois Mae Abbott Holmes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Norton Holmes. Survivors include his daughter, Dori Horldt and husband, Alan of Shelby and two grandchildren, Elli and Carson Horldt. Services will be held at a later date. Surviving to cherish fond memories is his loving wife of 46 years Myrtle Friday Smith; two sons Carlton Horatio Smith and Ashley O'Neil Smith (Sophia); his mother Myrtle Smith Ellis; four grand- children, Skye Smith of Kings Mtn. NC, the twins Avery and Aiden Smith of Kannapolis, NC, and Markayla Smith of Wilson NC; one sister, Vivian Ann Smith and one brother, Reverend Frankie L Smith (Wilma); brother-in-law, Tony Friday; sister-in-law, Frances Friday Vinson and a host of in-laws.
