H H H H sigma XI CHAPTER OF SIGMA KAPPA H UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS Fall 2020 I t's difficult to put into words what Xi Chapter has meant to so many sisters over the years. The values of Sigma Kappa have propelled us in our careers, helped us raise our families, and made all of us become stronger women after graduating from the University of Kansas. Life as we know it has changed due to COVID-19, but the lessons we learned from Xi Chapter are more important than ever. It's crucial that our undergraduate sisters and prospective members have Sigma Kappa as a platform to center their lives around during these unprecedented times. We launched the Supporting Our Sisters campaign to ensure that Xi prevails through the pandemic. The campaign will help the Xi Corporation Board and Advisory Board assist our members by providing immediate support and easing the financial burden of membership. This immediate need has stemmed from many sisters and their families who have encountered financial hardships due to COVID-19–hardships that led to 16 active women who were unable to move into the chapter house this August, and over a dozen members who decided to withdraw because they were no longer able to pay membership dues. To address these needs, our chapter reduced dues to the bare minimum, only paying what Xi owes to KU Panhellenic and Sigma Kappa Sorority. However, we are not able to significantly reduce housing fees as our Corporation Board was negatively impacted by the early departure of our members in the spring and the lower house occupancy this fall. Our goal is to raise support from alumnae and friends to give back to our members. We will reduce membership dues moving forward and ensure our sisters can continue their active status through the remainder of the 2020-21 academic year. We are beyond grateful for the sisters who have already collectively contributed $4,445 toward the campaign and our $50,000 goal. It is clear that they are thankful for everything Sigma Kappa has given them and that they understand the impact our sisterhood can have on women at KU for years to come. Our SOS campaign goes through the end of the year. Please help us reach our goal and ensure we can keep supporting our sisters during this tough year.
