The spring 2020 semester brought everyone new challenges amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, as new problems arise, our members keep leading the way in adapting to different situations and making the best of our new circumstances. Academic Achievement The shift to online classes in the spring may have tripped up some students on their path to successful degrees at UT, but that is not the case for the actives of Texas Alpha. The active chapter posted an all-time high 3.687 GPA, crushing the all-university men's and all- fraternity averages. This academic achievement sheds light on the ability of our actives to stand strong in the midst of unforeseen trials and attain success despite suboptimal conditions. Successful Summer Recruitment While COVID-19 made summer recruitment different than years past, Texas Alpha's recruitment team rose to the occasion and produced according to plan. This summer brought about 48 promising new members who look to begin a new chapter of their lives in college and through joining Texas Alpha. Impressive Philanthropic Endeavors Despite the spring semester ending abruptly, Texas Alpha adapted to new conditions and found alternative ways to provide for the community. The men of Texas Alpha managed to raise $10,000 for the UT Outpost, a university-based food pantry in support of students struggling during COVID-19. Prior to the coronavirus outbreak, Texas Alpha hosted its annual dodgeball tournament, successfully raising $10,000 for Austin Safe Alliance. Stay Tuned for Future SigEp Events at UT While COVID-19 has put a temporary halt to any social events for the semester, the leaders of Texas Alpha are continually looking for ways to keep members and alumni involved. As restrictions loosen in the near future, we ask everyone stay tuned for any updates in regard to a tentative parent's weekend or tailgate during the fall. As always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns!
