He was born in Henrietta, Texas, and was a resident of Webster, Texas, upon his passing. Monte bled burnt orange and was an avid Longhorn fan. After three years at UT, he was accepted into the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston. During his senior year, Monte was elected to the OKU honor fraternity for academic excellence and was the recipient of the Mosby Book Award. During his junior year of dental school, a lifetime of good fortune came his way in meeting Patsy Gray, and they married five months later. Upon graduation from UTDB, Monte joined the Air Force and served two years in Biloxi, Miss., in the Dental Corps. After discharge, he, Patsy and daughter Lisa moved to Houston, and Monte entered dental practice with Patsy's father, Dr. Murry G. Gray. They practiced in Houston for a number of years before moving to the Clear Lake area. His son, Michael, joined the practice in 1997 which gave Monte a great sense of joy and pride. One of Monte's great passions was military history; he read and had enough books to fill an entire library section of WWII history. Monte's most cherished asset was his family and is survived by Patsy; Lisa; Michael (Maria); grandchildren, Dr. Andrew Moore, Anna Moore, Rachel Moore, and Amy Cunningham; and numerous nieces and nephews. Monte leaves behind a multitude of friends whom he loved. Nick Classen '59 passed away May 21. He attended and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1959 with a bachelor of science in civil engineering and received a master of science in sanitary (now environmental) engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1961. He was a licensed professional engineer in the state of Texas and was a life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Nick worked in the environmental engineering programs of agencies of the State of Texas for over 40 years, including the Texas Department of Health and in the governor's office under Governor Preston Smith, before retiring in 2000. In his retirement, he worked part time for 10 years for a local funeral home and played the bagpipes for services at most of the funeral homes in Austin and Central Texas. Nick was a well-known bagpiper in the Austin area. He began learning in 1961 and studied under the late, world famous piper Seumas MacNeill of Glasgow, Scotland, and a number of nationally known pipers in the United States and Canada. He had the honor of piping for Texas Governors John Connally, Preston Smith, Mark White and William Clements; millionaire publisher Malcolm Forbes; Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and His Royal Highness Prince Charles of Great Britain; Ladybird Johnson; and numerous state and local dignitaries and celebrities. He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Wade (Linda); adopted daughter, Lori Schneider; stepsons, Dr. Kenneth Robinson, Mark Robinson, and Keith Robinson; sister, Dr. Jane C. Simon (Dr. Geza Simon); brother, The Rev. Dr. Ashley M. Classen (Dr. E. Jo Bailey); five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Nick was born in El Paso, Texas, and a resident of Austin at the end of his life. H. David Hayden '72 passed away passed away July 31 after a courageous 11-year battle with cancer. He was a resident of Dallas. While at UT, he met the love of his life, Linda Massad, whom he was married to for 46 years. After college, David joined the Mike Massad Agency and became a top producer and leader in the life insurance field. He dedicated much of his life to the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, and he participated in the Reading Buddy Program weekly, where he spent five years reading with his buddy, Oscar. His grandkids called him Dutch, and he loved his quiet time with the Lord every morning, fireworks displays at New Year's and 4th of July, spending time at the lake with his family. Everyone who knew David was familiar with his undeniable sense of humor. David was a dedicated husband to Linda, and they loved to travel and see the world. He was also a devoted father to Holland and Kelly, father-in-law to Kolin and Michael, and grandfather to Joshua, Cooper, Elliott, Casson, and Henry. David was a fiercely loyal friend and an unwavering Christian. Jack Savage '16 passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on May 25, at the age of 26 after a hard five-year battle with Ewing sarcoma. He grew up in Houston, Texas, and graduated with a bachelor of science in advertising from the University of Texas at Austin. He was an outstanding member of Texas Alpha Chapter and an excellent student. Jack created his own iPhone app, Emoji Bodiez, while undergoing treatment for his cancer. As a young entrepreneur, he expanded his company to create T-shirts and adaptive medical wear. He was fortunate to enjoy a family ski trip to Winter Park, Colo., in March, and spend a joyous evening laughing with a large group of his closest friends one week before his death. Jack is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jenny Lane Savage and Dr. Majed Ibrahim; his father and stepmother, Jeff Savage and Melissa Scheier; sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Ashley Becker and Fred Becker; niece, Naomi; sister, Annabelle Savage; stepsiblings, Maria, Mohamed, Sara, and Mohannad Ibrahim; grandparents, Jack and Lois Lane; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
