University of florida, sigma Phi ePsilon information www.flalPha.org SigEp Gator Heart T he world has changed quite dramatically since our last newsletter. As a Chapter and AVC, we needed to adjust in many ways over the last six months. UF went remote for the end of the spring semester, and there were many unknowns going into the summer and fall semester that VP of Operations John Sandstrom, Oregon State '74 and Treasurer Lee Catledge '90 were instrumental in helping us navigate. The entire AVC board and our undergraduate executive board, led by President Scott Ater '22, were tremendous in having detailed impact discussions that helped shape the planning decisions this summer. Our planning was focused on the health and safety of Florida Alpha, as well as preparing financially to be ready for a possible remote learning environment in the fall. The AVC worked hard to ensure the health and safety of the Chapter members while streamlining the budget to give us financial flexibility. A comprehensive health and safety plan was developed, involving social distancing protocols throughout the house, separate move-in days, and controlled social events. Social distancing of six feet is required in study areas and common areas and furniture has been rearranged to accommodate this. Sanitation products are available to wipe down common area, study areas, and gym equipment. Each floor had its own separate move-in day with limited guests helping on that day. Tables were set up outside to encourage members to eat outdoors in more ventilated areas, and guests were discouraged from entering, but a log was kept for any exceptions. Protocols have also been developed in the event a brother tests positive or develops symptoms, with the Alumni Room being set up as a quarantine room. Social gatherings will also look different: the dining room will always require the wearing of masks and Zoom options will be provided. Any meetings to be held will be done in larger rooms where social distancing can take place. Although this fall will be like no other, we believe we will come out as a stronger brotherhood. Through adversity brings strength and growth. We would also like to congratulate our undergraduates who have regained their #1 status of academic excellence among fraternities and sororities campus wide. And thank you to the alumni for your continued support. In these unprecedented times, the support of our alumni is needed and appreciated more than ever.
