Vilche Thank you all for helping me realize my dream- and represent Red Bluff as it's only professional female boxer. Speaking of female athletes, I attended the Red Bluff Roller Derby Girls first home bout at the fairgrounds on May 4. They were skating against the girls from Crescent City (who looked very tall and strong- and had me a bit worried for our hometown girls). I made my hubby go with me, which was like pulling teeth as he doesn't like to watch much besides fights. It was a packed house; so nice to see all the local support. When the action started, I was floored. Our girls were brutal! They jammed the other girls up at every turn and scored so many points it was crazy! You don't see that many elbows flying even in a cage fight. My butt and knees were hurting just seeing all the falls. Our girls dominated the whole bout, but the other team was tough, too. My hubby had such a good time, he is actually looking forward to the next one. If you've never been, do yourself a favor and check out the action. It's a lot of fun, and our girls are skilled! I'd try out, but I think it's a little too brutal for me. I'll stick to boxing, thank you very much. Since were on the subject of brutal girls, do not mess with any of the local Girl Scouts. I had my self defense training with them, and, to my delight, they were a lot of fun to work with. They picked up the skills with no problems, and practiced each move with so much intensity. I was thinking that many of them would probably enjoy boxing (or even roller derby....) The next self defense training I did was at the Cinco De Mayo celebration that Latino Outreach puts on every year. Fernando helped me out, did the moves with me and translated for the kids. Again, the young ones really surprised me with their abilities. My hope is that the kids all get more training with P.A.L. or someplace else.
