4 Pi Beta P hi A fter opening our doors to over 600 Potential New Members, we had the honor of welcoming home 40 Pi Beta Phi women this past fall. This year's Bid Day Committee decorated our yard in vines and forest green, perfect for our 2019 Bid Day theme: Jungle. With arms open wide, we danced and hugged the night away with Minnesota Alpha's New Members. To kick off October, we participated in Homecoming Week paired with Phi Kappa Psi and Tau Kappa Epsilon. We joined houses for a barbecue, lip sync competition and mural pomping. Placing first out of 11 pairings in the Greek-wide flag football tournament rounded up the perfect week. We also hosted our annual Pumpkin Pie with Pi Beta Phi event for Read > Lead > Achieve ® . The Pi Phi parking lot filled with 500-plus friends, family and other fraternity and sorority members excited to enjoy pie and cider. Some attendees even participated in Pieing a Pi Phi in support of children's literacy. The event raised more than $6,000. A Pi Phi favorite event was our alumnae career round table, which gave collegiate members the opportunity to network and learn from alumnae. This spring, we have 20 amazing seniors graduating, now ready to seize career opportunities, attend graduate school and embark on their new adventures. The accomplishments of two active Pi Phi members are also worth noting. Jill Yazejian '16 was awarded Greek Member of the Year for her dedication to the betterment of the Panhellenic community and exemplar of what it means to be a sorority woman. Jane Hoyt '19 received Outstanding New Member of the Year for her dedication to Pi Phi and support for the Greek community at large. It is an honor for the hard work of our active members to be recognized among such a strong and supportive Panhellenic community. This spring, St. Paul - with the help of the Minnesota Alpha Chapter - was one of five major cities selected for Pi Beta Phi's Fraternity Day of Service Signature Events. We had the honor of distributing 20,000 books at Dayton's Bluff Elementary & Community Center to be shared with teachers, community centers and other programs benefiting underprivileged children in the Twin Cities. We are so thankful for everyone who planned, supported and executed this life-changing event. Despite our semester being cut short, we are leaning on each other more than ever and ensuring that the sisterhood and spirit of Pi Phi stay strong. We have loved staying connected with our sisters virtually, including a special Founders' Day celebration via Zoom. Though this has been a challenging time, we are keeping the sisterhood alive and well and are that much more excited to reunite in the fall.
