SIGMA CHI | PAGE 3 C ollege campus living has changed significantly, even within the last 10 to 15 years. The experience is wholly different than what most of our alumni will remember. Residential facilities are the second most important factor in the college decision-making process behind the availability of a student's intended major. This is understandable considering that students spend 70% of their time within their living environment. Completed in 1965, our home at 8 Fraternity Drive has been a part of Gamma Theta's legacy for over 55 years and is showing its age. It has become clear we must make a major investment in Gamma Theta if we are to remain competitive and provide a quality living environment for future undergraduate leaders. KEEPING OUR BROTHERS SAFE The safety of our collegiate members is of utmost importance to the Gamma Theta House Corporation. We must offer a structurally sound and safe home for our undergraduate brothers. The plans outlined here will equip Gamma Theta with the latest in safety technology. Much like our personal homes, our chapter house must be a safe haven that instills confidence in our undergraduate members and their parents. PURSUING EXCELLENCE The University of Florida is as academically challenging as ever, and the need for an enhanced, quiet, well-lit, and comfortable study space within our facility is necessary for our members to achieve excellence. We have all seen the impact of technology over the years as devices not present during your college years have become necessities, including personal computers, smart phones, tablets, and high-speed Internet access. Our plan will ensure that Gamma Theta members excel academically and remain scholastic leaders on campus and within the Greek community. SETTING OURSELVES APART While Gamma Theta continues to attract some of the top men on campus, we know that we may be losing quality members to other fraternities that offer more modern facilities. In recent years, completely new chapter houses have been constructed by Alpha Epsilon Pi, Kappa Sigma, and Theta Chi. Additionally, Alpha Tau Omega, Delta Tau Delta, Beta Theta Pi, and Pi Kappa Alpha have completed, or are planning, major renovations of their chapter houses. We must also compete with the amenities offered in newly renovated on-campus residence halls and off-campus apartments. The University has spent significant time and resources on updating many of the residence halls on campus. All of these choices tempt our prospective members away from the chapter house and further highlight why we must offer a safe, attractive, and efficient facility in order to be competitive.
