Kappa Alpha Chapter of Kappa Delta at Florida State University • Spring 2020 Always Think of KD Collegians Take Community and Campus Involvement to the Next Level K appa Alpha has achieved academic ex- cellence, excelled philanthropically, and strengthened our sisterhood all while being externally involved on campus and in the community. To start, Kappa Alpha won a Merit Chapter Award, given to the top 10% of Kappa Delta chapters in the country. Academic Excellence • 31 4.0s • 96 honored on Dean's List • 3.43 Overall GPA Raising Awareness and Giving Back We hosted the first ever KD Fall Cookout philan- thropy event. is event brought the communi- ty together to enjoy food and a live band, while raising awareness and funds for our most de- serving beneficiaries. Vice President-Commu- nity Service Brie Chamberlin '18 organized a anksgiving food drive in which we donated 500 pounds of canned food to Second Harvest of the Big Bend. We recently hosted Girl Scout Troop 124 at Kappa Alpha for our annual Cook- ies & Confidence event. Our sisters take great pride in building confidence in the young girls of our community. e ladies of Kappa Alpha made the spring semester a little more colorful putting on our annual Color Me KD 5K. We are ecstatic to announce we raised over $26,000 for the Chil- dren's Home Society of Florida and our national beneficiary, Prevent Child Abuse America. Lifelong Bonds Sisterhood is special to each one of us here at 555 West Jefferson. We have grown closer and made lifelong memories on this year's sisterhood trips; it has been a year full of love and laughter. We are preparing for formal recruitment by educating our sisters through conversational workshops to ensure our recruiters feel confident. "I have the upmost confidence in the recruitment team and chapter members. We are all so excited to bring home pledge class of 2020!" says Vice President Membership Mason Spence '17. Strengthening Leadership Kappa Alpha leadership has reached great heights both internally and externally. Our chap- ter officers have attended Panhellenic trainings such as Greek Leadership Summit and COM- PASS. Four new members also attended CORE, a semester-long program where our sisters learn unique and effective leadership techniques to bring back to our Chapter. For Valentine's Day, our Chaplains held a bible study with our neigh- bors, Alpha Delta Pi, to encourage each other to "love thy neighbor." Over 50 women turned out to spread this truth. External Involvement Our very own Madison Mougey '17 is the only woman representing the College of Business in the Student Senate. Madison was instrumental in getting Kappa Alpha involved with Student Gov- ernment elections. Olivia Larson '18 represents us on the creative front. Olivia followed a passion of hers and founded the ri Club on campus. ese are just a few highlights that contribute to our well-rounded leadership. Winningest Kappa Delta Kappa Delta soared past expectations at Home- coming. Led by Homecoming Chairmen Chandler Wright '17 and Lauren Watson '17, members came together to build our 1st place Homecoming float. Our float theme was Spark Your Spirit and had a large rocket on it, sym- bolizing the revamping of FSU morale. We also received the Director's Choice Award for demon- strating the most heart, positivity, passion and embodying school spirit. ank You, Alumnae It has been an amazing year at Kappa Alpha. We owe a special thank-you to all alumnae for your generosity and support for which our suc- cess would not be possible. Please come visit the Chapter House whenever you are on campus, we are excited to see you! Every sister is dedicated to work toward the ultimate prize, a greater and better Kappa Delta.
