These funds have been put to good use and benefitted our undergraduate sisters at the chapter house. These alumnae and friends contributed to Omicron in fall 2019. Always Alpha Phi 2 At the end of Gema's junior year, she was chosen as a member of Omicron Delta Kappa's National Leadership Society on Tap Day. The support of her sisters as she was inducted into ODK is something that Gema still cherishes. "With the diverse group of women that Omicron encompasses, you get the unique opportunity to refine your skills within the walls of your own little community." Living in the "four-girl room" with chapter sisters Kathleen Hadd Bonifant '91, Margaret Krzewki Sundheim '91, and Kimberly Reutzel Wright '91 also created memories that Gema still holds dear. "Our time together was a multitude of fun little adventures and resulted in a lifetime of friendship." High Expectations for Character In Alpha Phi, members learn to lead by example through actions and communication, and they approach challenges with only the highest of expectations. Gema graduated medical school in 1998 and became board certified in obstetrics and gynecology in 2003; she has since been a physician at Associates Women Health. Recently, Gema was honored with the 2019 Most Outstanding Young Physician Award by the University of Missouri School of Medicine. She was also selected to serve on the School of Medicine Board of Governors and Mizzou's Jefferson Club Board of Trustees. The Common Bond of Innovation Gema is lovingly invested in her three sons' lives, and she and husband Jim are a #MizzouMade couple celebrating their 22nd wedding anniversary. Because of her devotion to her family, Gema became actively involved within her sons' schools and helped start a PTO in 2013. That experience ultimately resulted in an invitation to serve on the Omaha Public Schools Foundation, which is one of the top 10 education foundations in the country. "Although I initially felt ill-equipped for this arena, the foundation that Omicron provided allowed me to dive in and accept the challenge." Generosity is Hand to Hand Even though Gema is dedicated to her family and work, she still finds time for her community. Within Omaha, she has served as chairman of the CHI Lakeside Hospital and serves on several committees for both CHI Health Lakeside and Methodist Women's Hospital. Through her volunteer work at her sons' schools, Gema has had the opportunity to speak with college-bound students and enjoys sharing her Greek experience with the young women. "I'll share my experiences and everything that I gained from being a part of Omicron as an Alpha Phi with them, starting with these five things: scholarship, community, service, philanthropy, and opportunity."
