p. 3 Sigma Chi What made Sigma Chi the right Fraternity for you? My brother, Matt Roberts '92, joined in 1988 and I saw the relationships he built. I knew since eighth grade that I wanted to go to OSU and be a Sigma Chi. How has Sigma Chi strengthened the bond between you and Matt? We have always been close, but Sigma Chi has deepened our bond without a doubt. Matt initiating me is one of my best memories, period. Sigma Chi has added layers to our brotherhood. How did Gamma Delta mold you into the person that you are today? As a new member, study hall from 7-10 p.m. each night was a great foundation and our house was full of hard workers. I also worked hard in the kitchen with our legendary chef Larry, another character builder. The loyalty and diversity of the brothers sustains to this day. What was your experience like as consul? I enjoyed being consul. In addition to the great brotherhood, our group was very collegial and worked well together. Everyone worked as a team. I had some fun meetings as consul. A favorite was after Coach Pat Jones stepped down and a few brothers ended up at Voodoo Village due to unique circumstances … my generation will get it. What advice would you give to the undergraduates or recent graduates as they're starting their careers? Go to class and work your tail off. Sigma Chi is full of successful people and examples are everywhere. Hard work does pay off and you will encounter Sigs in every walk of life. What has your experience been like as the medical director for the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission? I love it. Pulmonary rehab utilizes exercise and breath work to help people have better quality of life and better endurance. Medicines can only do so much. When I see patients after completing the program and they feel significantly better, that is very rewarding. Who sparked your interest in pursuing a career in the medical field? I come from a small town of about 3,000 people called Pawhuska, Oklahoma. My hometown doctor was a great example for me. He took care of the whole town and was my first motivation to consider medicine. I shadowed him one summer and never changed my goal after that. What are your favorite hobbies? Spending time with my wife and kids, keeping up with OSU sports, and exercising. Is there anything about your family that you would like to share? My wife, Jenny, is finishing up her rheumatology fellowship; I'm proud of her. My daughter, Sophie, is 4, my son, Henry, is 3, and they both love Pistol Pete, or "Mr. Pete" as they call him.
