Securing Epsilon's Legacy 3 I n July, Edward Droste '69 E-1004 was inducted into the Circle of Excellence at Tau Kappa Epsilon's 60th Conclave for achieving high levels of professional success. He was previously named TKE Alumnus of the Year in 1991, received the Key Leader Award in 2001, and was bestowed the Apollo Award at Conclave in 2015. Ed was honored to be named among the top TKE leaders in the country. "TKE taught me to give back through our philanthropy with St. Jude Children's Hospital and others," Ed said. "I have been glad to help my community through charitable initiatives, and I hope it stimulates others to emphasize civic commitment." Ed continues his passion for service as chairman of Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation and vice-chair of its research committee, which he finds extremely rewarding. Moffitt is the third largest cancer center in the country with over 6,500 employees. In 2016, Moffitt created the Droste Foundation Ambassador Award given annually to two clinicians or researchers for superlative service. On top of supporting several societies and boards, Ed contributed to Securing Epsilon's Legacy to assist the Chapter House renovation. He believes that an updated facility will help Epsilon compete with other housing and increase fraternity acceptance on campus. "I am so impressed with the active Chapter. Their dedication to TKE's values is exciting to see." He encourages alumni who are on the fence about donating to visit the active Chapter and see for themselves the quality men who are upholding Epsilon's legacy. "You would be gratified to be around these young men. When you're dejected over certain national trends, their character and initiative are heartwarming. By giving back to Epsilon, you are investing in your own legacy and hope for the next generation of Fraters and our country." Epsilon membership actually landed Ed his first job when Jeff Whiton '67 recognized his work ethic and spirit with Epsilon and recommended him for a position in Florida. After his senior class of '73 president's speech to 16,000 in Hilton Colosseum, he had two days to get to down there where he joined U.S. Home Corporation. In 1976, he left that position to start his own firm, now called Provident Resorts Inc. In addition to his real estate career, Ed is a co- founder and partner in Hooters Restaurants and co-founded several other restaurants, including Pete and Shorty's, Adobe Gilas, and Splitsville, which is located in Walt Disney World and Disneyland and other cities. In 2014, Ed was inducted into the Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame and designated a Florida Icon by Florida Trend Magazine. Outside of his work and charitable efforts, Ed enjoys spending time with his wife, Marsha Posey, who must have seen some TKE-type decorum in him. He might have picked up a few tips as head waiter at Tri Delta sorority across the street. Ed and Marsha have been married for 13 years and live in Clearwater, Florida.
