Kappa Alpha Chapter of Kappa Delta at Florida State University • Fall 2019 Always Think of KD Kappa Delta Comes Home Where We Stand on House Updates O ver Homecoming weekend in October, Kappa Alpha celebrated Kappa Delta Founder's Day and the 115th anniversary of Kappa Alpha Chapter's founding at Florida State University. More than 75 sisters celebrated together and toured the newly expanded and redecorated Chapter House. Recently retired Kappa Delta National Council officer Jodi Scheurenbrand '78 and former National KΔ President Beth Martin Langford '78 were honored with plaques placed on the Study Room and Chapter Room, respectively. This event brought back lots of fun memories for the attendees, many of whom returned from out of state. You could feel the strong sisterhood enjoyed at Kappa Alpha. Like our sisterhood, the Chapter House has come a long way through the years. In 1996, we added the beautiful columns and balcony. Here's what's happened over the last decade: 2011 • "L" built out on the back of the house. • Dining room seating increased from 80 to 200-plus. • Seven bedrooms added to middle and top floors. • Added Lisa Bujalski Foyer Light of Life Chandelier. 2016 • Added Beth Martin Langford Chapter Room and Becky Sperry Wells Garden. 2017 • Building the Legacy campaign began. • Rubie Plant Butterworth foyer dedication. 2018 • Copeland Street Tower o Bottom floor: Enlarged kitchen and added new equipment. o Middle floor: Added house director suite and four-girl room. o Top floor: Added two additional two-girl rooms. 2019 • Jodi Scheurenbrand Study Room remodel. • Foundation beams added to lower level. • Crystle Johnson May piano dedication. 2020 and Beyond Eventually, we will have to rebuild from the ground up, just as Tri Delta and Alpha Gam have. We want to be ready by having a good foundation of funds. While the building campaign officially ends December 31, 2019, the housing needs of our sisters go on forever. Please keep the Kappa Alpha legacy alive in your hearts by including 555 West Jefferson in your contribution planning. You should've received a letter in the last few weeks that let's you know more detailed information about donating. If you have any questions, please contact our campaign coordinator at (785) 856-9582. Right now, we need to replace old pieces of furniture; tables and chairs are falling apart. They have been mended and repaired, but it is increasingly apparent that they won't last forever. Additionally, the back parking lot needs desperate attention. We plan to tear up the old concrete and rebuild it entirely; the front parking lot needs a new coat of asphalt as well. We are also putting new carpeting on dining room stairs and replacing the wallpaper. Please review our donor list on page 2 and 3 and consider making a final year-end contribution if you are able. You can use the enclosed pledge form or give online at tinyurl.com/KDFSUDonate. Thank you for all your support over the past few years, and we are excited to finish this campaign strong! Love in AOT, Beth Martin Langford '78 Kelly Gleeson Smith '92 Campaign Chairmen
