istory was made at the July 2019 SigEp Grand Chapter Conclave
held in Houston when Florida Alpha was awarded a Buchanan Cup.
Every two years at Conclave, the highest performing SigEp Chapters
are awarded the Buchanan Outstanding Chapter Award. Named in
honor of past Grand President Edwin Buchanan, The Ohio State
University 1911, the Buchanan Cup recognizes the best-of-the-best
Sigma Phi Epsilon Chapters. Chapters are measured in relation to the
accomplishments of their peers on campuses across the country. Only
the Chapters that excel in every area of operations and further the
Grand Chapter's strategic plan qualify for this high honor.
To be considered for the Buc Cup, Chapters must be chartered for two
years. Florida Alpha was about six months shy of this requirement,
so we appealed to the SigEp Board of Directors based on all Florida
Alpha has accomplished since
our rechartering in 2018. Our
appeal was accepted, and our men
submitted an application.
The Buchanan Cup Award
recognized the culmination of the
enormous effort to rebuild the
Chapter from nothing, after it had
been closed for three full years.
Two years were spent planning
for the restart as a SigEp colony in
January of 2016. The colony grew
and soon had the highest GPA of
all fraternities and was recognized
as the best fraternity on campus.

CHAPTER AWARDED BUCHANAN CUP

After earning our charter back in January of 2018, we applied for, and
received accreditation, as a SigEp Learning Community. And, finally
we were among only 23 Chapters out of over 200 nationwide to be
awarded a Buc Cup.
Additionally, newly chartered Chapters since the previous Conclave
are always recognized at Conclave. Florida Alpha must be the only
Chapter in the history of SigEp to be recognized for having received a
charter and a Buc Cup in the same Conclave.
This is a momentous occasion in Florida Alpha's history. Winning the
Buc Cup proves how exceptional our new Chapter is.
