ALPHA AVALANCHE | TEXAS ALPHA | PHI KAPPA PSI | | FALL EDITION 2019 LIVE EVER! DIE NEVER! PHI KAPPA PSI! DAVID DAGIAN '06 SHARES HOW PHI PSI IMPACTED HIS LIFE "Joining Phi Psi and establishing roles of responsibility in the fraternity helped me develop the confidence to be a leader. Planning OU Weekend and being elected as GP in 2008 were pivotal for me as I learned how to get things done by trusting others and being organized. " The Phi Psi yell has stayed with David DaGian '06 since he first learned the words. "Every time I think about the Phi Psi yell it reminds me to live each day to its fullest potential and to work toward doing something important that will live on long past my time." These Phi Psi values still guide David as he navigates life after graduating from UT in 2009. As a professional, husband and father, David has already left his mark on this world at a young age. Hired as a geologist for Jones Energy right out of college and later Concho Resources, David accomplished his goal of becoming an "oil finder." In April 2017, David moved to Midland, Texas, to be the vice president of exploration at Prime Rock Resources, a private equity startup oil and gas company. This role has been the biggest challenge of David's career so far. Prime Rock has established a non-op position in New Mexico's Delaware Basin and an operated position in the emerging Louisiana Austin Chalk Play, where they plan to drill their first horizontal well this fall. When getting Prime Rock up and running, David found a Phi Psi connection with Don Gray '76. As David tells it, "After we acquired our acreage position in Louisiana, Prime Rock formed a joint venture with the company that Don works for, New Dawn. This is a great story because Don and I realized the Phi Psi connection at the closing meeting and were able to shake hands as both brothers in fraternity and business partners going forward." Looking back on his time in Phi Psi as an undergraduate, David is thankful for the lessons learned. "Joining Phi Psi and establishing roles of responsibility in the fraternity helped me develop the confidence to be a leader. Planning OU Weekend and being elected as GP in 2008 were pivotal for me as I learned how to get things done by trusting others and being organized." David remembers the trip to Cabo San Lucas to attend the American Leadership Academy at Brother Jerry Nelson's UCLA '48 resort as the highlight of his undergraduate experience as a Phi Psi. David encourages his brothers to stay connected with the fraternity and utilize Texas Alpha connections in their careers. "Update your contact information as an alumnus and try to attend events when possible. You never know when a past connection could become a future prospect." David lives in Midland with his wife and Phi Psi sweetheart, Kendall, and sons, Benjamin (5) and Kipp (2). In his spare time, he is an avid tennis player, outdoorsman and enjoys riding motocross.
