The Sig Scroll p. 2 L indsay Lewellen '01 has been, in his own words, a lucky guy. Pledging Sigma Chi when he did and with whom he did — and doing so despite no connections to the Fraternity—helped set the trajectory for the rest of his life. "We had a small but tight pledge class, full of talented of guys. Many of my pledge brothers became C-level executives, doctors, architects, traders, business owners, lawyers, pastors, engineers, and community leaders. I know being around them made me better." Lindsay has many fond memories from his undergraduate years. He recalls forming an acoustic band—Cabin Fever—with Galen Martens '01 and Andy Cousins '01, playing ladies' night at Chubs every Tuesday. Had it not been for a gruesome hangnail injury during senior year, who knows what might have become of the trio? Nonetheless, the future would prove bright for all three pledge brothers. Lindsay graduated from Oklahoma State with a finance degree and began his career as an investment banking analyst. The interview process was tough because investment banks didn't interview at OSU, requiring him to compete as a "write-in" candidate against students from Ivy League and big name East Coast schools. "Grades, activities, leadership roles—these all mattered during the interview process. I was fortunate that OSU and Sigma Chi provided me the chance to build a resume that attracted firms generally focused on more traditional candidates." In 2006, Lindsay married North Carolinian Melissa Bowman. "I was lucky to marry a woman who has made my life possible and dealt gracefully with my unique flavor of quirkiness." Melissa and Lindsay have four children: daughters Carter (11), Murphy (8), and Wright (6), and son Hatch (3). The majority of Lindsay's career has been spent in private equity. "We buy privately held businesses, lead them for 5-7 years, and eventually sell them—ideally as larger, better-run companies and recognized industry leaders." Today he is the principal of Copeley Capital in Charlotte, N.C., a middle-market private equity firm. Previously, Lindsay was also the CEO of a healthcare services company. While life is busy for Lindsay, he pledges to be a lifelong learner. "To look back every several years and find myself a more well-rounded and knowledgeable person, this would make me happy. And more importantly, this would be a good model for my children." While living in North Carolina makes it hard to visit his Gamma Delta brothers, when they do get together it's as if no time has passed. "As you get older, you realize how incredibly rare relationships like these become. The potency of the friendships you develop in college are, in my experience, rarely matched. There is a version of me, one that I miss, that comes out when we get together." Reach out to Lindsay at llewellen@copeleycapital.com. "I've never met a nacho that didn't satisfy me in some deep, emotional way." "I play guitar and clawhammer banjo and have recently gotten into woodworking and building banjos."
