As well-known author and speaker Guy Kawasaki sums it up, "Innovate or die is how the world works." Usually when people discuss innovation and business, it's associated with a company's new product or revolutionary process. But those are actually just the outcomes. True innovation stems from a company's workforce. So when you see a business with the inability to innovate, the heart of the problem actually lies in the leaders' inability to hire and retain quality employees. Finding and keeping top talent is what will make or break a company in the "new economy," so it is vital that as leader you do what it takes to ensure your business' success. In order for your employees to become innovative in their responsibilities and your employers ahead of the competition, you have to do three things. Building trust, cultivating passion, and inspiring loyalty must be at the top of your to-do list if you want to protect your workplace from one of today's top business challenges – the inability to innovate. Build Trust Trust is a two-way street. First, your employees must trust you in order to have the freedom to be innovative or motivation to work hard. This only comes through honest communication and consistent followthrough from your leadership. On the flip side, you also have to trust your employees. Kawasaki points out All makes and models. Shasta Regional named in Top 100 Hospitals Shasta Regional Medical Center was recently named one of the nation's 100 hospitals in the nation by Truven Health Analytics, based on quality of care and patient satisfaction. Truven Health Analytics, formerly Thomson Reuters, is a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of health care. "We are extraordinarily pleased to have received this prestigious national honor," said Randall Hempling, Shasta Regional's CEO. "This award reflects the hard work, dedication and excellent patient care that our physicians, nurses and staff provide." In the past year, Shasta Regional has received numerous accolades for delivering quality health care. In September 2012, Shasta Regional was named as one of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in the U.S. for superior inpatient performance in cardiovascular services, again by Truven Health Analytics. That same month, The Joint Commission recognized Shasta Regional as one of the nation's top performers in quality and safety. Shasta Regional was the only hospital in the north state to receive this distinction and one of only 244 U.S. hospitals that achieved the award two years in a row. Then in June and again in November 2012, Shasta Regional garnered an "A" for Patient Safety by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. The Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospitals study evaluates performance in 10 areas: mortality; medical complications; patient safety; average patient stay; expenses; profitability; patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care; post-discharge mortality; and readmission rates for heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia. The study has been conducted annually since 1993. Only 11 California community hospitals made the 100 Top list, eight of which were from Prime Healthcare Services — the parent company of Shasta Regional. Prime Healthcare hospitals have earned this recognition 21 times. More information on this study and other 100 Top Hospitals research is available at www.100tophospitals.com.
