These students are honored for a fall 2012 grade-point average of 3.5 or better. For more information call Lisa at 824-4290. Cleaner Greener Red Bluff Volunteers are needed for Cleaner Greener Red Bluff's next event at Dog Island Park starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 6. Cleaner Greener Red Bluff will be hosting its next clean up day at Dog Island Park. The goal of the clean up day is to improve the trails to be safer, more clearly marked, and to provide open access to the river. The tasks will include widening existing trails, clearing downed and dead underbrush, and removing invasive species. Volunteers are invited to help clear brush and downed debris, clear trails, and spread bark chips on the newly cleared trails. Check in will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 6 in the meadow of Dog Island Park — on Main Street near the corner of Breckenridge Street. Please bring your own garden gloves and wear long pants. This event is a joint project supported by Tehama Trails, Civil War Days and Green Waste of Tehama. This recipe for Spicy Sonoran Beef Tacos with Cranberry Pico was a 1999 NBCO finalist and could be used for a beef dip at the Baxter Black Meet and Greet, April 16 at the IOOF Hall. Tickets are available at The Loft, The Gold Exchange, Rabobank in Corning and Shasta Farm & Equipment in Cottonwood. 1 1/2 pounds ground beef Salt and pepper 1 cup sweetened dried cranberries 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves 1 to 2 serrano chilies, coarsely chopped 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice 8 flour tortillas (6 to 8 inch) or crisp taco shells, warmed 1. Brown ground beef in large nonstick skillet over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes or until beef is not pink, breaking up into 3/4" crumbles. Place cranberries, cilantro leaves, chilies and lime juice in food processor container. Cover; process, pulsating on and off, until ingredients are finely chopped. 3. Add 1/2 of cranberry mixture to beef; mix well. Fill each tortilla evenly with beef mixture; top evenly with remaining cranberry mixture. Garnish with cilantro sprigs, lime wedges and lime peel strips, if desired. Tip: Jalapeno peppers may be substituted for Serrano chilies. For milder flavor, remove interior membranes and seeds from chilies or peppers. Chips can be substituted for tortillas when served as appetizer. Total preparation and cooking time: 20 minutes. Etzler Ranch Another one of the big eggs for which the hens of this section have become noted, came to light yesterday afternoon when John Etzler, who has charge of the Lawrence Etzler Ranch six miles west of Red Bluff, borough in an egg from Lottie, a fine Rhode Island hen. The egg is six inches in circumference and eight inches over the ends. It weighs 3 1/4 ounces. — March 20, 1923
