Downtown Public Parking Reduced to $5 The Fayetteville City Council voted at their regular meeting on May 13 to reduce event public parking in downtown from $10 to $5. The parking fee is charged during the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival, International Folk Festival, Fayetteville Woodpeckers games and other downtown events. The City Council made the decision after hearing concerns from business owners and employees about the $10 fee representing too much of a financial burden for them and their customers. "At Council's direction, all City-owned lots and the Franklin Street Parking Deck will now charge only $5 for parking during events," Deputy City Manager Kristoff Bauer said. "All of the rules we have previously established for the lots will still apply. We continue to encourage residents and visitors to come to downtown Fayetteville to enjoy what it has to offer, especially Fayetteville Woodpeckers baseball games." City Announces New Board Openings The City of Fayetteville is looking to its citizens to help fill vacancies for the following board: Board of Advisors for Woodpeckers Capital Reserve Account – 6 openings Applications will be accepted until 8 a.m. on May 24, 2019. All qualified applications will be presented to the Appointments Committee on May 30, 2019. The Fayetteville City Council will approve board members at a regular meeting in June. The City will accept applications via the City website a FayettevilleNC.gov. Citizens should scroll over "Government," look under the "City Council" section and choose "Boards and Commissions." Residents should then click on "Apply for a Board" and fill out an application. City Inspector Accomplishes Rare Feat City Inspector Joseph Cunningham has become one of the few code enforcement officials in the state to qualify for the highest certificates available in each of the five inspection fields. Of a total of approximately 4,200 inspectors, Cunningham is one of only 280 code officials to achieve the maximum number of top-level certificates. Certificates are given by the board at three different levels in the fields of Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical (Heating and Air Conditioning) Inspection and Fire Prevention Inspections. Bill Thunberg, Chairman of the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board, acknowledged his achievement at the board's meeting in Raleigh recently. "Mr. Cunningham's achievement embodies the City's core value of professionalism, as he strives to increase his personal knowledge in an effort to better serve the stakeholders of the City of Fayetteville," said Development Services Director Gerald Newton. "We are very proud of Mr. Cunningham's personal and professional accomplishments, and we are fortunate to have him on our team." The North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board was created by the General Assembly in 1977 to establish an educational and licensing program for all state and local officials charged with enforcement of the State Building Code.
