PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE Construction Budget Approved for Shelter Update THE CORDELT BETA OMICRON CHAPTER OF DELTA TAU DELTA AT CORNELL UNIVER SI T Y SPRING 2019 cornelldelts.org I hope this edition of The Cordelt finds you and yours well and enjoying spring and the warm weather to come. As I write this, there are many thrilling developments on the horizon for Beta Omicron. There has been much discussion, not only among Beta Omi- cron Delts, but across the entire Greek community at Cornell, about President Pollack's required changes to the Greek system that were issued last year around this time. How would they impact recruitment? Was the Greek system getting pushed out completely? How would we fare? While we only have one year of data, this past year was one of Beta Omicron's most successful recruitment periods in recent memory. I am pleased to welcome 19 new members who were recently initiated and have joined the Beta Omicron ranks. I am excited to say that the chapter has navigated the first year of the new regulations well and maintained promising communication with the university regarding our concerns with aspects of the regulations. The undergraduates deserve credit for their diligence in thriving with the new regulations. Also, thanks is due to our alumni for supporting the undergraduates and for laying the groundwork over recent years to be in a position to adapt to these changes on campus. I ask that we, as alumni, continue to support the undergraduates, and ask them in return to always remember the thousands of Beta Omicron Delts that have come before them over the last 129 straight years and the legacy they are helping to maintain. The House Corporation Board of Trustees has recently approved the construction budget to proceed this summer with the code reme- diation work that will bring the Shelter into compliance with the City of Ithaca regulations, ensuring the future of Beta Omicron on campus for years to come. The scope of work includes replacement of all bedroom doors within the two main living spaces, replacement of a handful of doors at the basement level near the back-of-house spaces, and the addition of a second handrail at the front steps. This work is critical for ensuring a safe environment for the brothers liv- ing in the Shelter (as well as anyone visiting). We are confident that the improved aesthetics from the work will also improve the appeal of living in the Shelter. I will conclude this edition of my letter to say that I am excited for the future of Beta Omicron. We attract great young men who are excellent stewards of the Delt name at Cornell and who understand the history we have. Our alumni impress with their generosity and willingness to ensure that many more generations of young men can become Beta Omicron Delts. Our dedicated alumni are working dil- igently to ensure we are prepared for the future. I am most excited that I have an opportunity to ensure that my two sons (future classes of 2039 and 2041) have a chance to become Beta Omicron Delts. I will know we will do everything in our power to ensure that we can all celebrate the 150th anniversary of Beta Omicron together at the Shelter amongst our friends and brothers! I hope that you all share in my excitement and that this is just the beginning.
