A few of the highlights in his prestigious medical career include serving as an ophthalmologist for the United States Naval Hospital from 1962-1964 and having his own practice that specialized in retinal disease and surgery from 1966- 1990 in Evanston, Ill. It was important to Thomas to educate physicians and give free or affordable care to his patients. Mark J. Gundersen '76 entered Chapter Eternal on February 16, 2018, following an unexpected battle with cancer. Mark's career included stops Dupont and DCV before moving into private practice. He also was as a managing partner at McCarter and English prior to his retirement. Mark was heavily involved at his church. He loved to travel and explored all over Europe and several national parks. Donald Rodis '76 entered Chapter Eternal on April 21, 2018, at his home in Olney, Md. After graduating from Cornell, Don served in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer in the 1st Infantry Division. He then worked as a P&G production plant manager, a small business owner, and a biomedical design engineer until he became a teacher at Marriott's Ridge High School. Don loved spending time outdoors between backpacking in the summer and skiing in the winter. He was loyal to his Pittsburgh sports teams and enjoyed coaching his children's sports teams. ALUMNI NEWS Alan Gardner '63 enjoys golfing, traveling, hiking, and Jersey Shore. Alan has four children and 10 grandchildren. He retired in April 2018 after 40 years of psychiatry practice.
